Interesting issue

Recommended Posts

my brothers 89 ranger does the same, accept only when the subs amp is in, rpm`s drop almost enough to stall the truck because his alt cant keep up, i dont know if thats ur problem but it sounds like it.

Oh and thats in park too, if it was coasting, it would probably stall (idk for sure but i think coasting rpm`s are lower then when in park)

i would guess there is a short between the speedo and hu somewhere. bass hits, draws power from hu, hu draws power from car. if there is a short somewhere in thespeedo and hu wiring. all depending on where all the wiring is for the speedo and hu. put a meter on your power wire and watch it. then do the same for the speedo.

like you said your not hacing voltage problems with headlight dim or anything even with the amps in so with out it your not gonna have problems there but that doesnt mean the speedo or hu isnt shorting out somewhere. if you put a meter on the speedo and watch it when the bass hits and you see voltage drop then that could be the issue. voltage change on the speedo could make it miss read.

Here's a video of my friend's '98 dodge neon that used to do something simular. The car was in park during the taking of the video. He had some old 400watt amp powering some cerwin vegas strokers. The speedometer was so funny to watch.

lol @ video...... if only it was a couple mph higher it would almost be showing the freq. being played if it wasnt close as it was lmao.

op: HAS to be an electrical problem...... probably all electrical guages so maybe just the small amount of current passing through the stock wiring is fuckn with the signal goin to the speedo.... maybe wires are twisted around the speedo power/ground that come from the h/u causing like a strong magnetic field messing with the signals from the sensors???

the most logical thing i can think of that hasnt been stated already......lol

good luck :)

i think there real i was looking through that guys stuff he sells and it looks like he finds stuff at auctions and just sells it

Yea, it looks like someone got the mids about a month ago....shit. If I had a whole Hertz front stage my ears would jizz all over my cheeks.

Are you saying that your speedometer goes down or your truck physically slows down?
