However, an officer can run your tags to see if the registered driver is licensed and insured. So that's the law doing their due diligence. Running your plates is the same as checking your identity. Only legal if the officer has probable cause. A cop needs ZERO reason to run your plates while your vehicle is in drive... Parked and unoccupied is a different story though I believe. You'll find the more a states government is in favor of taking care of everyone with health care welfare etc the more they are against individual rights. they dont want you to make choices they want to make them for you. That way everyone is equal and no one has more than the next. Except them of course. they dont count. If the person who called was confused then explain things to him/her. If I don't need a permit to carry, then an officer can't require to see my ID for simply carrying. It would be no different than requiring to see my ID because I had a McDouble.
