viper1315
Hey guys I am wondering do you need a sleeve or something at all for your zero gauge in the engine compartment. for example doing the big 3 and your zero gauge gets pretty close to the engine. do you need anything for heat protection or should it be fine? let me know thank guys. CXHBumpin39
well you can run the ground without any covering on it, but i wouldn't recommend it because if it touches something that has a positive charge its gonna short. Best bet is to just use wire with insulation on it
Tarball
If it's going to run near a heat source you may want to use some heat insulated shielding (depending on how hot the source) Here is a pic of what I used. I'm sure there are multiple options but I picked this up at the loca autoparts store in the performance section. Heat shielding for starter wire. CleanSierra
I've NEVER run shielding on any of my wire, but have always had a full size pickup. I've always been able to keep my wire from heat and also from rubbing. I've had power and grounds run for years that never wiggled, burned, or rubbed. Take your time planning your routing and you don't have to shield. The insulation is on the wire for a reason. Quote Im not the one you want to try to troll. Just a fyi for you. 1996BLKBauer
When I was running wire in my engine bay I just used some spit loom, and wrapped some good quality electrical tape. I ran 4 gauge wire, which I wrapped in 3/8 in split loom, which fit perfect, and then wrapped in in 3M tape. I was also very picky about where I ran my wire, kept it away from anything with excessive heat. Yep, be safe... for sure,......... I have gotten away with running my P & G right by my e-manifold for some time. The wire i use from alty to bat (both 1/0 power and ground) is from Ce Autos "kit"...and has a mother outter skin on in,,...... and is great for running down the undercarrige of the car. Then, with my ocd, i added a lil more, and well,.. i like the color..... so,.. what can i say......SPLIT loom as well... Power lead in blue, ... past the manifold....to the red on the SINGER.... there is a ground as well, that is to mount.....(not sure if you can see that?) that is made with the same skin as the power, and i also tossed on a black split loom ..
