Hi, I was wondering if I need to upgrade my alternator or if I should upgrade anything at all. I have a 98 Chrysler Concorde with a stock 130 amp alt. I just purchased a T1500-1BDCP and am planning on running it at 4 ohms for now (1100 watts), but will want to switch it to 1 ohm later on. At 4 ohms, it will draw about 1276 watts or 88.6 amps (86.2% efficiency). But at 1 ohm, it will draw about 2857 watts or about it's fuse rating, 200 amps. I have Kicker 0 AWG for power wire but everything else is stock. Also a Rockford 1 farad cap I got along with the Kicker wiring. My question is, would running 200 amps on a 130 amp alt be bad? I listen to my music loud consistently. Thanks for any input, all help is appreciated!

Sell the cap, do the big 3 with 1/0 and get a good deep cycle or powercell (2nd battery) and you will be fine. You may even be ok with just the big 3 but watch the video and crunch the numbers...let me know if i can help more

The alternator is the lifeblood of the system. If you have a new stereo system then it is wise to protect your investments. This means that you should have a good High Output alternator and good batteries so as to protect your equipment and to ensure longevity of your electrical system. We do have a few options for your vehicle. Can you please send me a PM with the engine size and I will let you know what we can do for you? Thanks!

Michael

It's been awhile since I've seen this post...Thanks for the info about the big 3, I've been looking into it. I got a yellow top optima but my starter battery died so that's where that went. Mechman (Michael), thanks for the input. I'm pretty sure I've talked to you before, but my car is the 98 Chrysler Concorde, 3.2L. I would love one of your alternators but my wallet isn't quite that wide yet. Pretty sure the options were 270 & 320 amp alts. Would I need to upgrade my belt or anything else besides the big 3?

lose the cap, and upgrade the battery under the hood.

might i suggest a diehard platinum from sears? it's a great AGM battery that comes with a 4 year warranty. (that's what i got it)

if you get light dimming, add a battery in the back.

so just upgrade the battery under the hood and no need for the new alternator or cap!

I have recently bought a yellow top optima, d34. Would you still recommend that battery over this one? If I did, I would use the optima in the trunk.

Also, I added another amp, T600-4. At 4 ohms, it's adding about 50 amps of drain at full tilt.

Well, since I just got it, maybe just buy a small xs power battery or something for the back? and lose the cap.. Or just save up for a new alt...probably from Mechman, but there's a 250 amp alt on ebay for my car for $198.
