Who else heats with pellets/corn? (how do you heat your house?)

Recommended Posts

In my house we use wood pellets and a pellet stove. We have an American Harvest 6039. It does a pretty good job, a bit cheaper than Nat Gas. One thing i like is my hard earned money is not going to a crooked outfit like Kansas Gas Service. The pellets are manufactured in Nebraska. I buy them from a local mom and pop hardware store so I am supporting my community.

This thing burns clean too. The ash pan only needs emptied about once every two weeks when it runs 24/7 on a high setting. When it's in the 30's or so it needs it about once a month.

Mine needs a bit of cleaning right now, the glass tends to get a bit sooty, but mostly because someone bumps the damper down by accident. Plus another nice thing is the top and sides are never hot. I could set a candle up there and it wouldn't melt it. Nice when you have kids and pets.

So, yeah, its kinda dirty right now, but it is a wood stove after all.

the underlined part

Kinda cool that the little thing can heat the whole house. Plus, cheaper than gas? I'd use one if I had the option.

It heats the house pretty well, about 45,000 btu. I've learned a few things about how to get the most out of it. I have an old drafty house so when it gets down in the teens we just close off the upstairs and the kids sleep in the living room. lol It probably doesn't cost less to heat with it, but like i said, at least the money is going to local business.

my heat is electric and during the winter months in a small 2 bedroom apt im paying about 50-60 a month only about 20-30 during the summer the heat stays of 24/7 so my estimate is about $30 a month for heat in my apt which isnt to bad.

might be moving into a 3 bedroom house here soon, cheaper rent bigger space but gas heat (dont have all the detail on heat yet) but i might put in a wood stove and i will be able to get wood from my dad for free. he is always cutting down trees during the summer has a good amount of wood thats nice and dry.

Out door wood burner. Water pipes are ran above the flames, then the boiling hot water is then ran into the house. We use that during the winter, for heating/hot water. The summer we use propane to heat the water.

Wen i put the floor in my garage I wan't to do something like this. That way, i can still do projects even in the winter. Does it do a good job of heating your house?

That thing is a tank. Can heat 74degrees no issue. Filling it once a day, sometimes once every two days. The size we have now is complete overkill. My Dad is planning to add an addition onto the house and planned on heating the 2 story garage. I believe it can heat up to 10,000sq feet iirc

Hell some counties in CA don't allow wood burning, and even the ones that do have certain days you are allowed to burn. I've always wanted a little wood burning stove for the garage, but hell, you can't buy then in cali.

not many cars can get me to pluggin my ears but this one.......damn. I mean the first minute is ok but that thing just really starts digging deeper and deeper in your earhole till you cant stand it no more. Seems like it does it with relative ease....16 12's on 8 amps.........gotta love it. :)
