I have looked everywhere for this and am unable to find anything...

I recently bought an HDC 315 and got the D1 option by mistake. I was wondering if it would be possible, as well as safe, to wire it down to 1-ohm. To do this you would wire it in series and have a 1-ohm resistor in parallel with each terminal. This makes sense but am I missing something? I really don't want to deal with the hassle of sending it back and waiting on the new one.

As stated above, your only options are .5 ohm or 1 ohm

You could run 2 smaller amps - 1 per coil at 1 ohm each or find an amp that does power at 2 ohms

2 ohms would be easier on your electrical. Something that does 1500-2000w at 1 ohm and wire it to 2. Chances are that those coils aren't a full 1 ohm, probably .7-.9 like my Fi is.

I think an alternate question is what have you done/are willing to do with your electrical? And what's your budget?

The hdc3s will take 3500 watts if you are smart with the power. But that is if your electrical can support it and if your box gives that much cone control.

Or buy an amp that will do 2500 RMS at 2 ohms. A few companies do that, including the 3500 from AQ. Your choice, but you can do two smaller amps and one per coil or one large amp at 2 ohms.

resistors that would take 1000+ watts are fairly expensive. by the time you buy an amp and those resistors, you could have bought an amp that does the power you want at 2 ohm. also, resistors will make your subs see less of the power your amp puts out anyways. i believe kicker 2500w amps put out at 2 ohm, or any of the amps recomended so far.
