ColumbusJBR Posted March 19, 2013 Report Share Posted March 19, 2013 My fiancé has no problem with me owning a gun, but I'd love to get her to the range with me and enjoy the hobby with her, but she currently has no interest I'm doing so. Several years ago I stupidly took her to the range and popped a 9mm in her hand to shoot, her first time ever even holding a gun. I know, stupid. Obviously I should have just gotten her comfortable holding a gun first, then started on a 22 or something similar. Anyway the whole thing kinda freaked her out and she has never wanted to go back. Turns out you're not exactly a genius at age 21... So here we are 7 years later and I'd love to ease her back into the hobby, I do believe she would enjoy it with some practice. I made her shoot it a few days at a range so she is comfortable enough handling it that she isn't scared and can use it if there was ever a reason I couldn't. Taught her how it dissasembles..cleaning it etc too. (Glock 19) Beyond that no gun of her own and i don't mind one bit. I like that I can just take a day and go shoot..no GF/wife. It's a getaway and chance to clear my head. I can't ride MX anymore because I'm going in the Navy...she snowboards with me..and we do everything elese together. I say cherish the fact you have somehting you can go do alone. I would make sure she is comfortable on it though..even if she doesn't want to be. In a home invasion situation..or another life/death situation..you could be injured and she needs to know how to use it and where its at. skittlesRgood Posted March 19, 2013 Report Share Posted March 19, 2013 I took my GF out with my mosin nagant rifle for her first time lol. but she wanted to go and, although it was scary for her, she was happy going again. maybe try to get her to help you clean your guns after you go shooting. that will get her hands on one again. when you talk about shooting, keep it simple. dont make it sound complicated. overall, I think a simple talk would do the most good. just tell her how you feel. how much it would mean to you if she took part in your hobby. tell her how much you would enjoy having her along. I'm sure she'll respond well to that. If I answered you in a well mannered, informative way, you asked a good question or had a good attitude. If I was an asshole, you asked a stupid question or you had a fucktard attitude... or I was in a bad mood. Lbox88 Posted March 19, 2013 Report Share Posted March 19, 2013 My wife isn't into it really but the first time I took her out I had her shoot a Ruger MkII .22, shooting at a monster can. She had a blast blowing away that can. Give her a small caliber and a reactive target and see how she responds to it then. Funny that this came up though, my wife mentioned the other day that she is considering getting her CPL now but doesn't feel she knows enough about guns or how to handle them.
