And I will be doing about 16" of external port so that "lip" with the mounting holes is out of the question. As for making a brace and mounting it, how would you do that?

That's why those that know a thing or two made the rules, not you. 150 posts IS low in opinion to sell. wish it were twice that, and some sites it is. 150 posts IS USUALLY enough to know if user is a D-bag or not. Where you tune doesnt completely mean that is where it will play its best. Tune it mid to low 13s, keep the port area on the low side, around 9-10sq in per cube and you will be able to play what you want.
