Damn I may pick some of those up myself kbsmoker, that's a great idea. Not that I've ever built a sub in my life, but I have a feeling I may be starting very soon! lol

Trent, I don't know why you think you'd be cluttering up this thread with sub build pics, it's part of your build. I for one would love to see them in here. But that's just me buddy!

Keep doing great work man, it's really coming together! WOOT! :twirl:

I know how you feel with that front baffle not fitting as one piece. I had a plan to fit my baffle as one piece and then cut out the port, but it didnt work out that way LoL. Ended up doing the port separate. I was close to cutting it down the middle like you did but wasn't sure it would be able to support the subs if I cut it. Your doing some good work and moving at a good pace. I think finding all the motors you need may take a minute though but good luck. I will keep an eye out for you

Cool deal, thanks bro. That's all I needed to hear, pics shall be posted!

Oh and yes you will end up building one before it's all said and done. It's too much fun not to, especially for us DIY'ers...

Dude I haven't really got into it yet, and I can already tell I am seriously going to enjoy this!

Thanks man, yeah I noticed that. If this part held up the subs I probably wouldn't have done it like this. But I figured since it only holds the port, and since it will be 4 layers sandwiched together, and since it will have steel angle iron bracing, it should be okay. At least I sure hope so! Speaking of which, I did a little bit more to it yesterday, pics otw shortly.

And thanks, I appreciate that! I figure it may take a while also, that's why I am trying to tell everyone I can, so that maybe they will turn up. Never know who may run across one or two! And hopefully after today, two is all I will need!

Hell I even have people from Kicker looking for them too! They were pretty impressed with my idea, and the pics I showed them of the others already built. Impressed enough to offer me a partial sponsorship! Whoop hell yeah! And they are supposedly trying to find me some new motors, how cool would that be?

Clutter shmutter. The fine details make all the difference. And who knows, might give one of us rookies (like me) an idea or two. :fing34:

$200 for new tires, on a jeep!? Is she stealing them or building them with a heat gun and rubber bands?

You hear that????

Small update:
I tried to get a little bit of work in yesterday, but the rain cut me short. But here is what I did get done.

I needed to cut more layers. I was going to split them all at different places, but soon realized that if I did it like this I would have less scrap, and enough to cut the final layer. I didn't really want to do it this way, but after contemplating it for a while, I said effitt and went with it.

First I copied and cut a second layer for each of the already split pieces. Here is the first one screwed to the first (inner) layer

100_4537.jpg

100_4538.jpg

Here is the other side laid out to mark it. You can see all that room beside it for the final layer.

100_4539.jpg

Other side cut

100_4543.jpg

Then, I screwed them all together, and cut out the final top layer. Here you can see how it will be done, the outside layer will be 2 piece, split at the bottom of the port, with the top piece getting vinyl and the bottom piece getting wrapped in carpet.
In this pic, the piece is rough cut, and I am getting ready to take the flush trim bit to it!

100_4544.jpg

All 4 layers. (Yeah I need new sawhorses!)

100_4545.jpg

Here it is all trimmed up, and from different angles.

100_4546.jpg

100_4548.jpg

100_4549.jpg

100_4550.jpg

Then as I started laying out the final piece to cut, (the bottom carpeted piece), the rain came and shut me down early. So next up is to cut that, then cut out the port openings, then the plexi window openings, then start the bracing. Oh and I gotta build the ports. I'm gonna start off with two different ports, one for music, one for numbers.

So there is much, much more ahead!
Stay tuned, and thanks for lookin'!

Congrats on the partial sponsorship offer, that's badass they wanna help! Let us know how that works out!

Thanks man, yeah I was surprised. They sponsor very few people, so even a partial from them is an accomplishment in my mind!

And yeah they went from "We don't recommend doing that" to "Let me see what I can find for you, I'll have to do some digging" after seeing the pics of the white one PSi did. That sub will inspire anyone I guess!

Cool, thanks man! Hey that's where most ideas come from! At least most of mine have came from watching others builds! Glad to help!

And we are all rookies at some point, gotta start somewhere! One look at my first install in this car shows just how far I have come in a few years time.

Anyone remember this? (I'm almost embarrassed to show it) First install, back in 2010 right after I bought the car. I had less than $100 in everything!

But that was all it took: I had the fever!

Wow look at those wires hanging down, and the LOC... jeeesh I have learned so much! And mostly all from this site!

Been there before. Think we all have. Had the 8" bandpass box they used to sell at Walmart and Sony Xplod speakers powered by my Dual deck in my first car. Which, btw, was a pretty badass h/u. I mean, hd radio, cd, bluetooth, usb, aux, and ipod control for $75? Fuck yeah! And it all worked without a single hitch!

I digress...

I can't wait to see this thing finished! I can't imagine how damn giddy you are!

Yeah I have seen several of the Dual h/s's and they are not bad for the price. And the sub in that pic, I sold it to my ex-wife, and she is still bumpin' it everyday, still running it w/ the same vm3 amp. I gotta say that stuff was excellent for the money. Simple and somewhat durable, and super cheap.

And yeah I am about as giddy as one could be I think! I find myself thinking about it a lot!

On a side not, I am leaving now headed for Pittsburgh. Pics shall ensue following my return!!!
