goodvibez Posted August 5, 2014 Report Posted August 5, 2014 So I'm chasing some issues with my equipment...the system sounds fine but I want to go over it and do the fine tuning because the amps were just set by ear pretty much after we figured out the other issues...the subs are now fully bypassed and now Im using my dd-1+ to get it tuned to prevent distortion and really turn it up... ...but when I use the dd-1+ to check head unit distortion and its being dumb...the HU eq's are all flat and levels are flat soon as I get no 40hz detect or voltage till volume 23 and the distortion light comes right on...the rca is plugged right into the dd-1+ I dunno I'm going to go borrow a friends dd-1 and check if I get the same issue...maybe my HU is f'd we will see Also here is another awesome issue I have with my meters...really not feeling confident with some of my gear Funny how the people who have a louder system than you will usually give you a compliment about your setup because they know how much blood, sweat, time, and money you put into it. The people who criticize or try and one up you....have a p.o.s to no system at all and will tell you all about this "other" guys system! Saddley I'm sure if I meet this "other" guy...he will probably tell me he thinks your just as annoying as I think you are! I'm not compensating, just proud of fabricating! On my first build, I checked my HU distortion from the mid/highs amp, then from the sub amp and took the lowest number. (my mids/highs didnt distort until 42 out of 50 while my sub was 35). Since they are load based meters, wiring differences could make a difference Bug that doesn't make sense for the two in back being so far off from each other. goodvibez Posted August 5, 2014 Report Posted August 5, 2014 Thanks Wood yeah just had to walk away for a bit, Turns out my hu wont put out a signal just through the rca's it has to be though the amplifier to get the signal, I dunno what was going on it was doing funny stuff but finally i just stepped away started from square one and double checked things and now its tuned with the dd-1+ Sounds ok, I may switch the sub and un-invert it to try out how that sounds but eventually will have to pull the box out to make some mods to it. Honestly the bass is about the same, the amps aren't pushing them as much as I want them to which means I may have to wire them lower but like I said thats the last thing I'm doing. One benefit of tonight was knowing where distortion is and being able to calibrate my om-1's in the center console for mids and highs and for subs. which makes me feel better I'll do the ones in the amps themselves some other day haha...thats going to be a bit of pain taking those apart to get to that little dial. RossGo Posted August 5, 2014 Report Posted August 5, 2014 Well yeah, if you wanted an approximate voltage meter, you could get one a lot cheaper.I personally have a VM1 for my rear bank and a stinger through my stock clock wiring.Digital at times is a lot nicer, and it fits in my stock location so well.I also have such minimal voltage drop, my meters are almost there to just show when there is a problem, not to monitor Yes I have a lot of stereo weight.
