bcpballer64
Learned how to kerf today.can you only kerf birch? also, is there more to it than just sawing a bunch of notches? Like wetting the area that is going to bend with water or something? You can do MDF. And this isn't Birch anyways.Nothing special such as wetting or anything. Just have to have the right blade-depth and space out the cuts correctly for the radius you want. I must have had beginners luck I did it in one shot and wetting the mdf would blow it up like a ballon. Just have to have the right blade-depth and space out the cuts correctly for the radius you want. I tried soaking the MDF a few times. If you can do it right, I think that way can be easier, but it's best if you have a strong mold/template AND if it is really saturated, it's going to be heavier than solid osmium and about twice the original size lol, so big pieces are much harder to move. Once it's set though you better have a darn good way or drying it, thankfully some very hot pavers does the trick for me, and then hitting the bend with a heat gun, and letting it sit in the sun for a few hours. Unfortunately we don't do it that way at work because the whole reason we are usually doing it is to replace previous rotted wood parts in houses in the beach cities, they rot very easily due to being so close to the ocean. So rick doesn't like to do it that way, since MDF doesn't hold up to rot as well as solid wood I believe. My response of well we don't really use your vagina so should we throw that out was evidently not the right response. I had to leave the room. I missed Alan. RIP 5/29/15 - I love you son.
