I have built a few and if you aren't careful it can cost MORE that buying a pre-built.lol Colt is the industry standard and you can't go wrong for a first time AR owner. Then, as you learn about your own you could figure out what you would do differently and either rebuild it to your liking or do a ground up build.

These are EASY to put together.

Do you plan on adding some sexy aftermarket add-ons like stocks, pistol grips, handguards, etc. then I would suggest buying a completed lower receiver with the furniture you'd like and a completed upper with the stuff you want (the lower you'd need an FFL for but the upper can ship directly to your front door).

$1500 can get you a good rifle if you shop around online.

$1500 can get you a really nice piece of gear with extra bells and whistles if you build it yourself.

I say shop around online and see if your local shop does transfers instead of being stuck choosing between what they have on the rack.

I do want to add some aftermarket gear but that can always come latter.

I'm kind of leaning twards building my own, that way its they way I want it. But I don't want to start something and find out I'm in way over my head.

you can build cheap or you can build not so cheap.

For my first one I bought. I have a stag model 3 optics ready. IT does everything you need it to.

My second one is a tinker toy. I built it. It also came out to about twice the price of the stag. actually about a litlte more. and I got in pre sandy hook on mine.

this is the stag. minus the acog it went 850ish at a gun show cash
258465914_photobucket_61957_.jpg

the only thing different now is it has a two point sling on it.

this is my build.

Ill list the parts so you can get a grasp on how fast it adds up

CMMG lower

Spikes advanced battle trigger

magpul moe stock

magpul moe grip

magpul trigger guard

Bravo company receiver

bravo compay mod3 charging handle.

magpul ms2 sling

bravo company full auto bolt carrier

bravo company low pro gas block

bravo company 14.5 m4 barrel

bravo company a2x flash suppressor

daniels defense carbine length gas tube

Geisselle. MkII free float rail

magpul mbus front sight

magpul mbus rear sight(not on there)

Magpuil ambi single point sling plate

rock river star ambi safety

that one is about 1700 and change. I went high end on almost everything. I still need an optic for it too so that will push it even higher.

Keep in mind thats pretty extreme. Palmetto state armory manages to pop up to some cheap but solid ars too. If I was looking in your price range right now its 6920 and not looking back.

Thanks N8. Im not a complete noob but its been about a year since I looked into one and I have no experience with them. I know how much it can add up building one but its not too bad if you stretch it out over time. Last time I priced a custom build I think it came out to about 2500 but thats with mainly black rain parts and with eotch halo site.

Im gonna go back and look at that colt again. Stag has also caught my eye, and if remember correctly they come with a lifetime warranty on their barrels.

Thanks for the input guys.

Slick guns.com has them all the time. Except you live in Cali. They will not ship there anymore

I only have one and its a DPMS Panther but I like it. I haven't had any problems with it yet. .223 it was something like 1250 new but i bought it from a family member with the scope, 1000 rounds, 2 EXTRA mags, carry case, trigger lock, etc. for 1000 even (he needed to sell it and I came out WAAAAAAAAY ahead, LMFAO)
