thegr8cody Posted July 21, 2013 Report Posted July 21, 2013 Well now that I am for sure getting a truck. I decided against a blowthrough. My last two trucks I had the same box in. I jad a Sonoma with a 9518g sub and port forwars. Then put it in a sierra sup and port up. I have to keep my backseats so im thinking of just building a box to sit on my backseat. Then I can just take it out and put in my bed when I need my backseats. I know sub forward and port up is good and from my experience sup up and port up works. Just curious if any others run a setup like this. I dont think it will effect sound too much. Just never had a box on a seat. They've always been on the floor so it makes me skeptical. Im gonna put handles on the box to make it easy to carry as well as strap down. All my last systems have been single 18's ( btl, atomic,DD) I just cant decide on 4 10's (never had 10's) so im very skeptical. 3 12's ( have a lil faith there) 2 15's (feel comfortable) or 1 18 (been there and proven it). My only dilemma is now my musoc style has changed. I listen to more country and rock so I want a lil more sound quality (doesnt have to be great). I also want some higher bass (the kind that hurts instead of rattles 40+hz but also wanna drop low). Gonna be using an aq2200d or dd m2. So about 2000 on tap. Would like to keep it under 7 cubic ft preferably 6 after displacements so its not too hard to carry and move. 1998 gmc sierra h/u:eclipse cd3200 sub:dd9518g d1.5 amp:jl e300/4 sub amp:dd m2a front stage:id ctx65cs dc power 270 alt lots of kicker 1/0

Moreno93 Posted July 21, 2013 Report Posted July 21, 2013 I've though about building a box strong enough to hold people so they could sit on it.. and having it run the length of the inside like the seat would..
thegr8cody Posted July 21, 2013 Author Report Posted July 21, 2013 Yea a box for people to sit on would be great but I have kids so safety first. The more I think about it the more im leaning towards seperate boxes so if its just one kid I can pull one box . I dont know. Too much flowin through the brain right now. Will definitely update this if I come across some info as I imagine alot of people are in this situatuon 1998 gmc sierra h/u:eclipse cd3200 sub:dd9518g d1.5 amp:jl e300/4 sub amp:dd m2a front stage:id ctx65cs dc power 270 alt lots of kicker 1/0
john253a Posted July 21, 2013 Report Posted July 21, 2013 You mustn't drive the thing much I cart my kids at least once or twice a day Pulling the box in and out would just be a nightmare You could blow through with the seat in, or look at under seat subs You'll do 4x 8" under most truck back seat, and you'll have 10% more cone of a single 15, but on 3.5-4k rms Or if you want to wait for something like the new x6.5 you could do 6 or them on upto 6k, and you'll be the same in cone area as 4x 8 @ Approx 195sq" All I can say is dont knock them till yourve herd in the right box on decent power
thegr8cody Posted July 21, 2013 Author Report Posted July 21, 2013 well my wife will most likely be picking the kids up, my job is gonna give me crazy hours. plus my vehicle is mainly for towing and driving back and forth to work. we bought a van last year as a family vehicle and use it for anything that involves the kids. so mine is mainly a just incase something happens to the van or I wanna take the kids to go do something. the only way ive seen to fit 8's was to raise the backseat 2" or so to get enough airspace and I know the 8's wont do what im looking for. im thinking 2 12's is gonna be the ticket. box will be maneuverable and easier to handle than say a box that has to be wide or tall enough for a 18. the problem im running into with the blowthrough is the backseat blocking the opening. I don't think the backseats in a Silverado lay down. so I would have to cut a section out of the seat or something, and underseat boxes just don't have the airspace to accomplish anything. and center console is only good for like 2 10's. so basically this is the best route that I can think of at the moment. 1998 gmc sierra h/u:eclipse cd3200 sub:dd9518g d1.5 amp:jl e300/4 sub amp:dd m2a front stage:id ctx65cs dc power 270 alt lots of kicker 1/0

White Lightning Posted July 21, 2013 Report Posted July 21, 2013 Installing an enclosure to lay on your backseat is a MAJOR safety hazard ... Also, you loose MAJOR power with the enclosure as it gets "coushioned" by the seat. Bad idea guys as that enclosure combined with heavy subs can become a deadly weapon in the event of an accident .... My suggestion (having an extended cab truck) would be to either get rid of the back seat, build an under the seat enclosure, or build a blowthrough enclosure ... I built a blowthrough setup and it works great ... Even with the back seat in stock position / location ... thegr8cody Posted July 21, 2013 Author Report Posted July 21, 2013 I dont see it being anymore of a hazard than a standard box. I dont plan on just sitting it on the seat literally. I plan on making some handles so its actually strapped down and secure. I didnt factor in it being cushioned. Thanks for pointing that out. 1998 gmc sierra h/u:eclipse cd3200 sub:dd9518g d1.5 amp:jl e300/4 sub amp:dd m2a front stage:id ctx65cs dc power 270 alt lots of kicker 1/0
