Amp draws more amperage when playing higher notes?

My box is tuned to 34hz. WinISD predicts the box's peak to be about 39hz. I wish I had the proper tools to measure things like impedance.

So basically, when you play frequencies near tuning, the amp draw is the lowest since the port is doing most of the work and not the sub?

I think, rise also plays here. When you play close to tuning, impedance rises higher.

You will have less rise, out of your enclosures range.

Right. Hmm.. if the impedance of the coils rise, then the amp's ability to send power to the sub will be less, I think.

Woofers are reactive loads. Hence the term "Impedance" look it up.

They change their resistance with various input frequencies.

How it changes depends on the woofer and it's environment, i.e. Enclosure.

Higher resistance from the woofer means less power from the amp. Less power mean less current draw from your electrical system.

This is perfectly normal, not a bad thing. It's actually good to have a power curve that varies because it can be tuned to match the acoustic output for a flat response.

OP, sealed box or ported?

A raw driver will have a HUGE impedance spike at resonance (Fs).

In a sealed box your resonance will shift a bit (Fc).

In a ported box there is a dip in impedance at your tuning frequency (Fb). That dip has impedance peaks before (Fl) and after it (Fh).

So depending on where you are on your specific curve, your impedance will change drastically.

Your output current from your amplifier does not necessary directly correlate to audio output.

Keep your eyes out, Tony D should have a video on impedance coming up which should show this graphically which always helps visualize it.

If not, I'll toss out some charts.

no matter for me it drops anyways having stock 90 amp alt sucks and batt on that 05 t1000bd amp which has 150amp fuse, wish I had the money for 170amp alt from mechman
