? on streetable fwd-rwd swap cars

Recommended Posts

k so i have a built 305 and a built th350 tranny chilling around. me and my dad have talked like how it would be funny to do a rwd swap into a neon of my style "98" my question is putting the emissions issue to the side. how realisitc would it be to be able to do that kinda swap into that car and have it handle and perform well on the streets. just started looking into the legistics of doing that kinda swap thought i should also ask here.

I picked up an MTX Sw1212 powered subwoofer today. This thing sounds amazing. 130 watts, 12" woofer with a passive 12" woofer tuned to 27 hz. Moving the pictures on the walls and my girl got wet from the bass when i showed her haha. Tonight should be good haha.

Seems like an awfully short/light car to be putting that much torque to the rear wheels...you'd have a hell of a time keeping that back end in check I'd say.

Are YOU a good fabricator? Do YOU have a good understanding on drivetrains?

Can be done (and has) for sure. Biggest challenge after fitting the motor and cooling is keeping the unibody strong enough. Have to cut and raise the tunnel to make a rear exhaust fit along with the driveshaft. Cage it to be safe.

Custom shortened rear axle and driveshaft or piecing together something from a few different cars and making it work safely will certainly test your patience and skill.

i agree to start with a RWD shell for safety and ease of build.

Edit: This reminded me--I saw a Fiero on CL with V8 conversion kit but no motor. Friend of mine had one in high school and it was stooopid. No steering at all under full throttle.

dont try it, way to much work on a shitty car. If you want a something to throw that motor in get a miata or 240

your a shitty car!

240s are a rwd car so is a miata and 240s are known for having a ls swap in them.

a neon how ever is not

and i am a entry level fabricator my dad is not i wana go to school for autotech so a project like this would be a perfect start

something like an awd evo or impreza is a better idea, honestly. you'd run into so much time/money being dropped into reinforcing the subframe in that neon... if you want a relatively cheap project, ls swapping an rx7 is fairly common and somewhat cheap. doing a ls or SBC swap into a nissan hard body...killer idea.

thread jack! thinking about doing the same thing to an '07 Acura TL, thoughts? Sounds like a cool project, but like everyone's said, going to be a lot of work and time and figuring shit out and getting everything perfect...when does the build start?
