HHR Ed Posted November 19, 2013 Report Share Posted November 19, 2013 Caps have no resting voltage. The voltage rating on a capacitor is it's maximum voltage to be charged at. So if you see a Capacitor that says 16V. That means that you can charge it anywhere from 00.01V to 16V safely. A cap will charge to whatever voltage you put into it. So if you charge your 16V Cap with your alternator that puts out 14.8V. The cap will then be at 14.8V. Caps work well when used with batteries to level voltage over time, give higher peak power, and ease charging duty on the battery.
