REVOofRustler
Found the problem(s) That chunk at sitting on the chain in that last picture is all that's left of a guide that should be supporting the chain up and to the left diagonally. Then there's also the one at the top that's cracked in half with a chunk floating around up by the left head. 2002 Dodge Dakota 4.7 club cab - Sold 2004 Audi S4 Avant - Fi and Crescendo - Stock Bose System - http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/147725-2002-dodge-dakota-end-of-the-road/?hl=%202002%20%20dakota 136.4 Sealed @ 29hz 137.0 Drivers window open @ 26hz

REVOofRustler
I'm not a master mechanic by any means, but the timing system on the BHF 4.2 is one of the more complex things I've seen on a motor. Those gears on the lower left are for driving the AC compressor and power steering pump. The water pump is also driven off of a gear hidden in there somehwere. Only thing driven by a belt is the alternator. Weird stuff. I ordered parts tonight along with the special tools I need to get it apart and back together again. Hopefully those will come saturday, so I can start getting it ready for re-install. (Not my motor, but this is how it looks with all the guides in good condition/clean) 2002 Dodge Dakota 4.7 club cab - Sold 2004 Audi S4 Avant - Fi and Crescendo - Stock Bose System - http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/147725-2002-dodge-dakota-end-of-the-road/?hl=%202002%20%20dakota 136.4 Sealed @ 29hz 137.0 Drivers window open @ 26hz

_paralyzed_
Okay those are left and right side cams, that's the crankshaft, is that for a water pump? What the hell is that deal over there for? What is this magic? What the hell is wrong with pushrods?!!!
