FutureFuzz 26 Posted February 9, 2014 Report Posted February 9, 2014 Hey guys, i joined the forum a while back as my typical CarAudioForum.com will get pretty stale and consist of the same 20 or so members and 15 of them are trolls that lurk in the random sub-forum I am 18 and recently graduated HS, i am an installer at a local shop and have been messing with audio equipment since middle school. abit of background of the car, I bought this car in May with 207,148 miles. It was owned by my boss'es dad who drove it from his garage, to work, and home (unfortunatly 120 mile round trip, so racked up some miles in his 13 years of ownership) the car was well maintained and cleaned/detailed regularly so the paint and interior is still in great condition. However the radiator had a leak, he told his other son (who is a mechanic) he could borrow the car as long as he fixed the leaking hose. The car was borrowed, but the leak wasnt fixed. I started by investigating what damage had been done. initially I pulled the canister oil filter and drained the oil. It was full of coolant. The head was severely warped. Knowing that is engine had soo many miles and is so difficult to replace the head (24V DOHC with double VANOS) I figured it wasnt worth my investment to try to salvage. I went on the hunt for a new engine 3 weeks later I found a donor vehicle at a local salvage yard, it was a wrecked 1999 323i with 87k miles. Its basically the same engine (2.5L instead of the original 2.8L) Since it was a salvage yard all 6cyl engines where a flat rate of $225 with everything from alt to intake.
