kirill007 Posted March 17, 2014 Report Posted March 17, 2014 now that you mention the populus amp have you heard anything about them lately I can't even find the Facebook page I think I'm spelling it wrong the 3.5 k looked bad ass https://www.facebook.com/populusaudio Yes, theyre starting another presale in a few weeks. TaylorFade did testing on it, and seemed to love it. That alone says a LOT to me. I actually found this testing on the FB page too.. "4207.36w Starting Voltage: 14.0v Dropping to: 12.4v 0.5 ohm Nominal 1.1 ohm Reactive" Taylors testing led to this.. " 1,065w @ 5 ohms & 14.4v with 83% efficiency." "3,550 @ 1 ohm and 12.8v. Amperage draw measured but not pictured. 73% efficient at 1 ohm and 12.8v." "4,225w @ 1 ohm and 14.3v." "5,270w @ 1 ohm and 15.9v" I don't know.. Its looking promising.. I might pick one of these up. Efficiency is decent, but those numbers aren't anything special. It seems to be a fad these days to put XXXX amount of power to a subwoofer and to rate the amps below what they actually put out. Because it's cooler to have a amp that does 4kw and is rated at 3.5 instead of a amp that does 4kw and is rated 4kw. 4kW is still a lot of power for one subwoofer, but i'm sure if you know what you are doing it'll take a 4kW amp easily. I just hope you have good electrical and a great enclosure to complement the subwoofer, because nothing is as horrible as a woofer driven by a gigawatt amplifier and it sounds just as loud as that other guy with his 1kW "overpriced" amp. Thinking is the root of all problems... You ALWAYS get what you pay for.

Im part of the group on this amplifer. Its special. I think. When you see the cost, and the warranty,..... it isnt a cookie cuter. And a clean 4k to a team sub,...... meh. Id do almost double. Harsh Kumar Posted March 17, 2014 Author Report Posted March 17, 2014 Can I overpower my fi team 18" a bit.? Around 5000w or 4500w.? Or should I stay below or nearest to the rated power.?
boom50cal Posted March 17, 2014 Report Posted March 17, 2014 If I was doing it... DC5.0k with dual 2 ohm coils. Keep it nice, simple, and within warranty parameters. On 1/4/2013 at 9:31 PM, HatersGonnaHate said: Wow. 184 posts and I think you're a fucking asshole.
dolarbilz Posted March 17, 2014 Report Posted March 17, 2014 You probably wouldn't hear a 1000 watt diffrence

Why would you want to do that? You won't even hear the difference between 4kW or 6kW of power on the same setup only difference is that things will be breaking down quicker, heating up more, (sounding worse),....
