Got my first XS battery. Something isn't right though.

So as the title states just got my first XS Power Battery. Its a d3400. To keep this short and sweet, I have a DB Electrical 250 amp alt. All XS 0 gauge cable. The Big 3. i charged this battery to 100% before install. The starting voltage seems to be fine (13.7)but charged voltage is only 14.0 volts. Just pulled a 3 year old Interstate battery that would have 15.0 volts charged. It doesn't even go above 14.2 volts @1200 rpms. This does not seem normal for a XS battery. Also XS calls for this battery at 50 degrees temp. to have a charged voltage of 15 volts. Anyone have experience with this?

I have the same battery. My resting voltage was at 12.7 out the box. Charged it up and put it in. The battery will charge at 14.4 ish and rest 12.7 ish give or take. If your meter isnt any higher it could be something else and not the battery.

theres nothing wrong with the battery.. I used to have 180amp alt and D3400 and cold start was about 14.5-7 and was going down to 14.0-1 after warming up..

Hmm, I just put it in today and I dont think I've seen 14.4 volts on it but maybe once. Everything was running fine before the XS battery.

Could be the alt not the batt... never paid attention what my xs chargea at but it always meters around 13 after car is off on stock qlt

Pretty sure your alt kinda determines your charging voltage...

ALT problem.

I have a D3400 as well. Its resting & charging, off of a properly working ALT is as the folks above have stated.

... & what/who is a "DB Electrical 250A Alternator"?

What does it sit at with the car off, and what do you charge at with the car on?

P.S. Charging at 15v is stupid IMO. Never understood the boner people get from charging too high. Once you drive around and your engine bay warms up, so will your battery, and that 15v you just read will fry it. Personally I charge at 2.3vpc. That would be 13.8v for a 12v battery. Safe for underhood temps. If you are thinking that's too low to charge the batteries, your alternator isn't designed to charge batteries. It takes a couple hours for your battery charger to top off a battery. Longer if it actually needs to be charged. Compare that to the length of time you drive for. See why your alt doesn't charge batteries? That's what your battery charger is for

Thanks for the replies, but as stated. My alternator is fine. And yes your alternator does determine charging voltage. its called a voltage regulator. 15 volts is just what XS calls for at a temp of 50f (obviously the engine will warm up and not be 50 for long). and btw starting voltage is what the voltage is with the car off, get it, its the amount of voltage used to START the car and charging voltage is with the alternator producing a current to the battery, and for your info a alt does charge a battery. If your battery is barely charged enough to start your car and you let it run for 15 minutes, guess what your alt will charge the battery. I though you guys would be smarter, I dont need a lesson on the things I already know, would like experience from someone with this battery.

So it sits at 13.7 and when you are running it is charging at 14v? That does seem a tad low. What else is happening besides weird charging. I mean does the battery hold the charge well. When you go out to start is it all good. I guess I'm just asking are there any other problems or is it just charging differently than you are used to?
