Cj Kumz Posted June 11, 2014 Report Posted June 11, 2014 Hey people. Ok I have just come up with a box design but need some advice on the sub loading straight into the port. Does this look ok guys?? timc31610 Posted June 11, 2014 Report Posted June 11, 2014 Does the port have to face that direction? What is the distance from the bottom of the sub to the top of the port? Cj Kumz Posted June 11, 2014 Author Report Posted June 11, 2014 The just about level lol. Lemme try and side port the box. That would work out better you think?? MrBigs63' Posted June 11, 2014 Report Posted June 11, 2014 Yeah I would try and not do it like that. Could you put the sub on the same side as the port with the same design?
Krakin Posted June 11, 2014 Report Posted June 11, 2014 A lot better than having the subbunload into the port. Krakin's Home Dipole Project http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/186153-krakins-dipole-project-new-reciever-in-rockford-science/#entry2772370 Krakin, are you some sort of mad scientist? I would have replied earlier, but I was measuring the output of my amp with a yardstick . . . What you hear is not the air pressure variation in itself but what has drawn your attention in the two streams of superimposed air pressure variations at your eardrums An acoustic event has dimensions of Time, Tone, Loudness and Space Everyone learns to render the 3-dimensional localization of sound based on the individual shape of their ears, thus no formula can achieve a definite effect for every listener.
CleanSierra Posted June 11, 2014 Report Posted June 11, 2014 The just about level lol. Lemme try and side port the box. That would work out better you think??I've been a big advocate for porting to the side the entire time. I'd do an aero or an octoport.Edit-Just so it's clear, I'm not a fan of that port design at all. I never like them bending like that and even less if there is a potential unloading issue. Im not the one you want to try to troll. Just a fyi for you.
khinds94 Posted June 11, 2014 Report Posted June 11, 2014 CleanSierra Is right and I really do not see why people choose to slot port (other than walls) when you can literally make a simple ported box, cut a hole to the diameter of the aero, and add a 15 dollar aeroport that saves you time and effort of a complex box design while still having the ability to change tuning. The only downside to that though is that the port sticks out of the box which you may not have space for. 03 Sable LS AA mayhem 12" D2 Sundown ZV4 12" D1 Tantric HD 12" D2 Tantric SHD 12" D1 Sundown X12 V2 D2 2.5 cu net Sundown 2000d @ 1 ohm XS Power XP2000 Sky High Sound Deadener Sky High wire Stock alt

Weigel21 Posted June 11, 2014 Report Posted June 11, 2014 Looks poorly designed IMHO, which others agree to. Aero ports are nice, but the issue with traditional round ports, or any port in general, is that if one is tuning low, the length of a port can get ridiculously long if you are retaining proper port area for the sub(s) being used. with a slot port as you have done, one would ideally want to do away with any 90* bends. To do such, one can add a narrow board inside the port in the corner to make it have a couple 45* bends instead, though one needs to make the inner wall of the port mirror said bends. Also, one would want to round/router the edges of the port, both inside and out so there's no sharp edges that can create nasty port whistle. Edit One can go a step further and line the inner walls of the port with felt or similar material.
Triticum Agricolam Posted June 11, 2014 Report Posted June 11, 2014 ... One can go a step further and line the inner walls of the port with felt or similar material. That last sentence is where you lost me. What do you hope to accomplish by lining a port with felt?
