Torres Posted March 24, 2008 Report Posted March 24, 2008 you said your car was off? try it with it on and see if it improves???yeah that could make a big difference.how many cubes this box have? and what's it tuned to? i tried reading through the posts but i didnt see. unless i looked over it. build-wise it looks good and sturdy. but spec-wise it could be off and hinder performance
Derrick824 Posted March 24, 2008 Report Posted March 24, 2008 I skimmed through your build log and I thought it said that your box was 8.33ft. Thats way too big. I'm sure it pounds the lows great but you won't see any good spl #s out of that. If you want #'s then go with 5ft of volume and use external aeros, either 2 6" or 4 4". With external aeros you can change the tuning of your box quickly without it adversely affecting your box volume. Then have two center sections made up, one for daily lows and another for higher spl #s.

fourlug Posted March 24, 2008 Report Posted March 24, 2008 8.33 cubes??? That box is huge, higher tune and less air space will give you more SPL, but probably less lows. Its a win/loose situation.
audiofanaticz Posted March 24, 2008 Report Posted March 24, 2008 around 5 to 6.5 cubes after displacement does wonders tuned to around 35-40hz.
Derrick824 Posted March 24, 2008 Report Posted March 24, 2008 Going from 6.75ft to 5ft I lost 1db @ 32hz but gained 0.5db @ 41hz (my truck's peak). The box was tuned to 32hz. I also recommend a lil more power. Even with a base Q, I'd still be running a solid 1500watts into it.
KickerAudio21 Posted March 24, 2008 Author Report Posted March 24, 2008 dude, the box is 6.3 i think, it is 8.44 including port. I have talked to A LOT of Q 18" owners and they say that 6.3 is optimal Also fi HIGHLY reccomends tunign it 29-32, no higher I will be getting more power to it (1300 rms prolly bxi1606d) pretty soon. But I still can't belive my L7 basically is on par with this sub, when everyone preaches so much about it and everyone else is hittin ghigher numbers with the Q. I have smoked every single 15" L7 setup i've gone agains, even though mine wasn't tuned high and it didn't have spl box. That just goes to show that my Millions of sq. ft of dynamat, and good electrical system are paying off, and i'm not a dumbass when it ocmes to installing. I'm wondering if my box design for the Q is flawed somehow ------------------------------------------------- 1st place circuit city car/spl show (maplewood,MN) 2006 146.6 dB's with 2 12" L7 and 1606d brutus
Ray Posted March 24, 2008 Report Posted March 24, 2008 wayyyyyyyyyyyyy to many "dead spots" I had a q 15 do a 46 legal @ 38hz in a trailblazer, so its not the woofer. If you want a monster sub, then your gonna have to buy 1`. Id fire both the woofer and port back in that car with that setup. my .02 2008 California state record holder 157.2 Bassrace2009 California state record holder 157.0 BassraceRollin 50's 158.7db2009 King of Cali Bassrace2009 USACi score 160.5 @ 42hz
