visiontech4x4 Posted July 29, 2014 Report Posted July 29, 2014 I just upgraded my sub amp to a CT2200.1. After installation I noticed a light alternator whine. I checked everything the HU, HU ground, Batt, Amp and Chassis grounds, RCA cables. The only way I can get the hum to go away it to unplug the RCA's from the CT amp. Checked ground reference on my Mid/high amp and I get 300+ ohms, on the CT amp I get 0-0.1 ohm. Called CT tech support and discussed my issue. Was told to call my CT dealer and exchange the amp. Now I just got home with the new amp and decided to meter the ground reference before I install and I get the same reading. I have a hard time believing that I have two amps in a row that are bad. Anyone who owns a CT amp with amp turned off disconnect your rca input and meter between the outside of the terminal and ground. Post your reading is it a short 0-30 ohms or do you get a higher reading. Also what amp are you metering.
SIDE SHOW Posted July 29, 2014 Report Posted July 29, 2014 sounds like a gruond loop through your rca's..... doubt it's the amp
visiontech4x4 Posted July 29, 2014 Author Report Posted July 29, 2014 I have tried 2 different decks. Checked rca to ground and they are open. If I swap to a different brand amp the sound goes away. For now I have put a ground loop isolator at the amp, however would like to figure out the issue. Even CT tech support says I should not have a short to ground on the RCA however this is the second amp that has it.

visiontech4x4 Posted July 31, 2014 Author Report Posted July 31, 2014 Installed the new amp. The alternator noise is now worse and no other changes have been made. Ugh. I am going to pick up another set of rca's to try out. Will the amp remote wire cause this issue if it is ran with the Rca's.
