SQL50
The only thing I've heard on having massive amounts of port area is a peakier box, but I can't remember where I saw that at.. It was on this forum somewhere and it was a reputable person I just can't remember who.. I've never been in the situation with a crap ton extra port area, tends to take up a lot of space lol.. Krakin
It only becomes a peaky response because you have given it adequate port area, but have a bad design. Low port area compresses the air going through it and brings down the response at and near tuning. If you design a proper box it will not be peaky and have large enough port area. I would have replied earlier, but I was measuring the output of my amp with a yardstick . . . What you hear is not the air pressure variation in itself but what has drawn your attention in the two streams of superimposed air pressure variations at your eardrums An acoustic event has dimensions of Time, Tone, Loudness and Space Everyone learns to render the 3-dimensional localization of sound based on the individual shape of their ears, thus no formula can achieve a definite effect for every listener. Krakin
Port per should be dead with the floppy disk, it gives you absolutely no idea on what your response will be. No. And no 69 sq. inches of port isn't too much for the BL's, even 80 would work fine. Thinking is the root of all problems... You ALWAYS get what you pay for. Hoppes #9
2 years ago I ran 2 12in BLs in 4.65CF on a 8.25 wide round port tuned to 33 hz and it was amazing from about 25-75hz they were getting about 1100 watts per woofer
