scooter99 Posted January 20, 2015 Report Posted January 20, 2015 So I had 2 Crescendo 3500.1's on 2 12's at 1 ohm in my civic with a Singer 180A alt and 6 XP950's and never dropped below 12.3v at full tilt. My question, if I were to double the amps, (4 3500's), and I went to 3 times the batteries, (18), would I still be good? I'll be running a Singer 370A alt in a Ford 6.0 Powerstroke Diesel. There's a possibility of runnign a second alt, but it wouldn't be as big as the first because of space issues. Hard to believe that a truck this big has aboslutely no space under the hood. Anyway, I'd be able to get a 4g alt in there but we're (Mike and I) not sure yet what the Amp power would be yet. Still exploring options. As far as cable runs, I was going to run 4 runs of 2/0 from front to back as well as grounds. That should be plenty but again, I'd like to hear everyone's thoughts on it. All the batteries are going in a welded weatherproof box under the truck, so they'll be protected, and I have lots of space so I could go more if needed. zack_e89 Posted January 20, 2015 Report Posted January 20, 2015 Sounds like you know what you're doing, but Im sure more alt couldn't hurt 97 Suburban 8 custom PSI Platform 3 18's
scooter99 Posted January 20, 2015 Author Report Posted January 20, 2015 Yeah i think you're right. If I could get another alt at around 250-300A I'd be pretty happy with that. Facebook Page: S99Creations 2006 F250 Lariat Build
zack_e89 Posted January 20, 2015 Report Posted January 20, 2015 With just one alt on all those batteries I would be a little worried about keeping them charged, but Mike is the expert there. You would probably be fine just putting them on the battery charger at night or after slamming. Also - Are you running 4 runs of 2/0 to the back along with your power wire? Many people have different opinions on this but I think it would be a waste of wire when you could just ground to the frame in the back. There was a great discussion with some super smart guys a while back, if you need I'll try to find it. I don't think I could tell you anything you don't already know though, I know you're a veteran around here 97 Suburban 8 custom PSI Platform 3 18's

There was a great discussion with some super smart guys a while back, if you need I'll try to find it. I don't think I could tell you anything you don't already know though, I know you're a veteran around here I've actually never ran ground from front to back, I've always done it at the frame right under the amp sites, or battery sites. I was just thinking of doing it for an experament but I hadn't decided yet. Yeah I didn't figure one alt would hold up long on all those, but I do plan on the second one, Mike and I just have to figure out what can be put in there, and if any more can go in. The 6.0 Powerstroke has an OEM bracket for a second alt with what is called their ambulance package. But, it's alot more involved than that as well. The turbo inlet, or outlet pipe, I can't recall which, is in the way, and there's a special crimped pipe that goes with it. it also has some wires that have to be re routed, and then of course the alt wires that get plugged in and I think have to go through the brain of the computer. Then there's some talk about having to have the computer reflashed and the alternators alternate back and forth on the load. Which I don't want. I'd rather them be on all the time and charging all the time. So we've been discussing and trying to figure out how to make that work. I also know there's a spot way down under the motor, has to be done from under the truck, that can house another alt. But it's a MAJOR pita to do. I've seen a video on it. So I'll have to do some more research on it all and how to get it in there. I'm not sure how much room I have in there, or if anything can be removed behind the 2nd alt to get a bigger one in there. Lots of research to be done. Ya.... just put em on a charger every night..... that 370 is beast.......... Oh I know it is. And yes, I'm planning to install a charger also, so that I can just plug her in whenever and it's already on board. You know me, nothing goes unthought of. Just don't always know if it's going to work! LOL And as you VERY WELL know, I always second guess myself! Ya.... just put em on a charger every night..... that 370 is beast.......... ^^this guy knows what's up....we love him, the people's champ Kyle, he doesn't know shit. Oh he knows beer, but otherwise knows nothing about power and definitely isn't loud!! (Mario, just because Mario) 4 bc3500s at .5 ea drops me to mid 9v while demoing with a singer350, xs d6500, 2 xp3000's and 7 g34 dakas. What is your vehicle again? Edit: I just saw your build and remember now the F150. Nice. And what are the sizes of the dakas? I guess what I should really ask is, how many AH are you running with all of your batteries? I think that's the right thing to look at right? I mean look, I have no problem running 6-8 batteries per amp. They're cheap enough and I have the room to make it work. That'd be 24-32 XP950's. I have Jon about 3 hours away from me, I'm sure he and I could knock that out in a weekend, well wait we're talking about Jon here, I'm sure Logan and I could knock that out in a weekend while Jon talks shit in the directors chair in the background!! LOL (BTW, I would say that to Jon, so I'm not just talking shit behind his back so everyone knows!) Again, guys, I know enough to be dangerous, but I always wanna learn. You all know me by now. Let's learn some shit!! Facebook Page: S99Creations 2006 F250 Lariat Build
