JeepAndBassXJ
What sort of bandwidth could I expect out of a well designed ported box? I've gotten used to my 4th being able to go from 30hz to 70hz and I'd hate to give up too much of the high end to get further into the 20's. What subs are you using? How much power? I have a pair of Fosgate Hx2 12's with PSI recones. So I have no idea what the TS parameters are now lol. I'm giving them about 2000 watts give or take based on box rise. hoit
I would think with frankenwoofers with no specific T/S parameters...the design gurus will have a difficult time calculating your exact needs. One of the reasons I opt to buy subs that have parameters posted! Secondly...while I have NO experience with building 6th order bandpass enclosures, I have heard repeatedly that they almost always require further tweaking to truly reach their potential. 2007 Chevy Aveo Ls sedan 2 Sundown Xv2 on scv4k @ .5 ohm 2 pair RE XXX 6.5 components on sax200.4 @ 2 ohm Big Three, Three runs 1/0 power from front to back, 1 ground front to back Two runs ground from rear bank to chassis XS power d3100 upfront, 3 Odyssey 2150s in bank Singer 220 amp alt

Secondly...while I have NO experience with building 6th order bandpass enclosures, I have heard repeatedly that they almost always require further tweaking to truly reach their potential. That's what I'm afraid of, I had luck with them in my 4th. It was designed for the original HX2 speakers but the recones did better in it with the same power. So I've hesitated in doing a new box for a year now, if it's not broke then don't fix it sort of thing; but maybe it can work out if enough research is done. Triticum Agricolam
If you are hell-bent on building a 6th order bandpass box, it certainly can be done, but to do it "right" is going to take some effort. Are the subs you have broke in yet? If they are you could buy a DATS and measure their T/S parameters. With that info it would be possible to at least begin coming up with a design. If they aren't broke in yet, it would be a waste to measure them since the parameters shift so much. Once you have the T/S parameters you would be able to tell if your subs are appropriate for a 6th order BP or not. Not all subs will work well with that alignment. Like khinds94 said, designed a ported box with a lower tune and possible some other tweaks should accomplish what you are looking for.
