My cousin has 1997 Ford Explorer Eddy Bauer and the factory sub is blown and so he wants to replace it.

Is there anything aftermarket he can slam in there with the correct/similar wattage and ohm load?

Everything is stock in his vehicle.

Anyone with experience please chime in, thanks!!

nope, IIRC it's a shallow 8" with a odd 4 bolt pattern.

I think they went to 8" in 1998.

I am not 100% sure but I think his is a 6.5" JBL mid bass 130 watt max (90 watt?) 4 ohm, stock type of thing. he is keeping factory amp, just is looking for direct aftermarket replacement to slap in there on the cheap. Anyone else had this experience?

Yes, it's just a 6.5. Had it in my explorer. But mine wasn't blown, and I never replaced it. If I had, I probably would have put one of kickers 6.5 cvr's or whatever model it is in there. I remember looking into it at one time.

It's a SVC 4 ohm, I think he bought a Pyle and threw it in there.

#1 was cost

#2 was performance, lol

people over at the explorer forum always bring this up and they either replace with the parts express 6.5" or the kicker variation... same thing goes for the 98+ but they use the 8" versions.... you can either find something duel 2 ohm or single 4 ohm but options are not that available and most people say the output is better after you replace the stock sub but some of those people after a little time ditch the sub and go a different route.... don't go too crazy because the air space in the stock box will not support anything that needs more air or sports a larger magnet.... some modifications are necessary to mount the new speaker ... some have went as far as replacing the amp with some success because the stock amp cant put out anything worthwhile
