first spl comp..thinking of different car...help me out please.

Recommended Posts

ok, so the kid (16) entered his first spl comp on sunday. he is in ms3 class, midwest spl. he is currently running 2 american bass xfl15's, hifonics zeus 2400.1 amp at 1 ohm, all 0 g wiring, extra battery, kenwood HU and kicker door speakers on the factory infinity amp. his peak frequency is 44hz according to the meter. this is in a 97 jeep grand cherokee. his qualifying run was 143.5db on music, his comp run was 143.3db...again on music. he intends on staying in street division class, but being 16 is on a budget. he is looking at the american bass 150.1 to replace the hifonics 2400.1 (we were told by a guy at the comp those xfls can handle that amp...he also runs AB products). so, in the same thought process, i was thinking of just putting this equipment into a dedicated rattle box...errr...comp car as well so he can get his cargo area in the jeep back. giggle if you wish, but ive been thinking of finding an early to mid 90s ford escort wagon. im no huge car audio guy...got out of it way back when in high school...but...these cars can be found on the dirt cheap..and i could care less what it looks like. flat black paint and tinted windows..good enough in the bigger scheme of things. do these cars do any good with spl? i know this jeep is huge inside and thinking a smaller rig would be louder. ideas, thoughts?

He escort isn't a very good vehicle for it tbh they don't get loud easily. Some people have had good luck but not many.

msd3...midwest street division, midwestspl.com

we are going to take the stuff out of the 97 and put it in my 04, cabin is a tad smaller and not everything is rattling loose like in his jeep. think it would be a good idea to put expanding foam in the quarterpanels and hatch before we get everything in there? his buddy hit 140 in the same year grand cherokee (04) with 2 audiopipe 12's with an audiopipe "1500 watt" amp....in a store bought box. cant imagine his wouldnt get higher numbers in my jeep.

also, anyone have any opinions on the american bass 150.1 amp? 2900 watts at 1 ohm...RMS

or ive been looking at the AB vfl44801D which is suposed to be 4500W peak...but i cant find the rms rating....at 1 ohm.

the 44801 is a bit less expensive...and this IS going in a 16 year olds car (since i gave him my jeep), but he has to buy the stereo equipment.

Not familiar with that format but I'll just say, make sure the use of expanding foam doesn't automatically bump you up in an umlimited/extreme class.

(Had to look: " Expanding foam may only be used in limited amounts in front of the B-pillar and may not be used to fill any large voids such as under dashes or doors"

Just a heads up :)

With some work, a good box and amp I would think you could increase that 143 quite a lot!
