Frank H
You dont need them but they do help with air flow and they also help brace the box a little bit. Triticum Agricolam
You dont need them but they do help with air flow and they also help brace the box a little bit. They do help brace, but the corners of a box are very stiff areas and don't benefit from bracing anyway. What 45s do help with is they provide more surface area for gluing. They don't have to be very big at all to provide this benefit. 45s in the port are another matter. The benefit they provide to airflow makes them very worth doing IMHO. audiofanaticz
They only take up airspace if you design/build the box first and add them later. A good designer and builder will take the added time to figure out the displacement of the 45s in the designing stage prior to building the box. Added them to a box that is already built can hurt performance due to the added displacement, but with that said they can add to performance if your box is too big and are having unloading issues.
