Highest Voltage on a DC 5.0k ??

Do you have the amp already? If you don't have it yet you will be better off getting a bigger amp and running it a 12v. 16v batteries don't have as much reserve as the 12v and you'll end up spending more on batteries and Alternators. I get it in you have the 9k and need more from it but why a small amp when there are bigger if you need more?

You dead set on 16v? If you want a good daily 14v is good IMO. Most equipment, aftermarket and stock will handle in the 16-16.5v neighborhood you'd be charging at. Way less things to go wrong with no stepdowns

Already running the 5k with 14v batteries. Dedicated alt for the 5k. Why not get as much out of it as it will give ? Plenty of space for batteries.

Ahhh perfect. You already have the groundwork

Yeah man you can run 16v, just be aware that adding 2 more cells in series within a battery will necessitate smaller individual cells. So the batteries will have a bit less capacity. Depending on how you play, this may or may not be a factor for you. Just something to keep in mind

I would also encourage you to double check the wiring to your regulator is at least 8ga and all connections are good. I've seen a couple amps go up in smoke when there is too much resistance in the wiring for the regulator and you get one stray voltage spike. In theory the protections circuit should stop it, but the system isn't infallible

if your already setup for 14v batteries id suggest keeping with that. here is why. 14v batts fully charge a 16.8v. 16v fully charge at 19.2v, however the DC5k is limited to 18v so you will never get full use out of 16v batteries. I highly doubt the extra 1.2v will justify enough power for the switch. if the 5k isn't enough on 14v step up to a 7.5k on 14v, it money better spent
