After having no luck with the local bedliner shops, and not knowing if suede would fade in the sun. I ended up with a can of thicker and lighter color fleckstone, and a can of uv resistent clearcoat.

Wired em up with the midbasses in the doors for a test run and am really happy with how they look and sound. An amp will help them sound bertter for sure, but still a few weeks off.

Not sure where the crossovers are going yet, will probably end up hiding them under the amp rack.

I did not try the swiss cheese method, but the resin seems to have stuck to the plastic panel pretty well. I did also make sure to resin it around the perimeter edge, if that helps any. Like you said "hopefully the glass adheres well enough." :D

they look good but.... "the resin seems to have stuck to the plastic panel pretty well" resin doesnt stick to plastic at all so good luck with that...damn :D (it may seem like its holding but just when you get comfortable...and if that box hits hard enough it could do them in)

I need to learn how to fiberglass, I have a huge project that I want to get started on but I have no clue how to fiberglass, I have done some looking around on here for awhile and kind of know the basics, but will not know anything until I try it myself, I just need to find a friend to let me test on hahaha. Looking good man

Well, there are 3 screws in there too! I realy hope they hold up. I'll be pissed if they fall apart! http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/public/style_emoticons/default/mad.gif Guess I'll try the swiss cheese method next time around!

how did u get the ring to stick to the a pillar? and when you say milkshake method what do you mean?? im going to do some pillars real soon and wanna get all the info i can

The ring got hot glued to popsicle sticks then hot glued to the pillar just to get them aimed properly and symetric with eachother. Then I cut an 'angled block' about 1" x 2" out of some poplar wood that I had laying around and put 3 wood screws through the plastic pillar into the block of wood 1 on top and 2 on backside, to keep it in place, right in the middle of the ring.

The "milkshake" is just a mix of resin/hardner and bondo/hardner all together in one container. Mix it to the consistency of a milkshake so when you paint it onto the pillar, it runs together for a smoother surface. Its the pink/tan stuff in the pics.

Like Steve says, I would go ahead a drill a bunch of holes through the plastic a-pillar before you start, so some resin can run through them and really attach the whole pod to the pillar.

By far the most difficult part is sanding the suckers down, you really have to sand them a lot more than you would think, if you want them smooth for painting. I ended up with fleckstone on mine as the bedliner idea fell through, and fleckstone does hide any small surface imperfections.

I also used my dremel tool to grind down the seams where the glass cloth overlapped a little.

Good luck with yours, for my first time, they really were not too bad, I'm sure I could do a better job as I learn more about how to do them. They do give you confidence to start to try more things with fiberglass. I am going to have to do something for my center console mounted scanguage next.
