audiofanaticz Posted February 3, 2008 Report Posted February 3, 2008 just a question. Is there any reason your using round tubing, and not square?
David Posted February 3, 2008 Author Report Posted February 3, 2008 just a question. Is there any reason your using round tubing, and not square? I am using both, square stock for the main framing and round for fill. Round is Stronger and cheaper and as long as I align it all up before I weld its still flat to screw wood to. Square .090 1-1/4 is 25 dollars a stick ( 20') round 1" schd 40 is 8 dollars a stcik ( 21') I buy the round from my work.
David Posted February 3, 2008 Author Report Posted February 3, 2008 ok I have been going at it since 8am, time for a small coffee break, here are some pics to keep you happy untill later. so I first cutt up a bunch of round steel with this ( Rigid 300 pipe threader/cutter) last nite I stopped here becuase of the rian. well its sunny and nippley, so away we go. Got Steel? in the pile of steel you'll notice longer pieces for the top, it wont be as solid as the bottom, but thats ok I think its gonna be plenty strong enough.
AI James Posted February 3, 2008 Report Posted February 3, 2008 looks pretty interesting. cant wait to see results from this one

David Posted February 3, 2008 Author Report Posted February 3, 2008 Damn thats gonna be strong! i bet its slow tedious work though.yeah its slow, cut to fit, and I still have to do some welding on the back side of all of this to make sure it stays in place from both sides.once I am satisfied with the rear wall, I will grind some welds on the face to make sure everything lays flat. then on to the roof and floor sections. the sides are gonna be the hardest, I need to save myself enough roof to get to the top nut on the rear airstruts and still get my disired air space. with a quick gustimate of known measurements I have about 25 cubes to play with, I wanted 30.
fourlug Posted February 3, 2008 Report Posted February 3, 2008 Holy shit I don't know how i missed this build, looks ridiculous! Gonna be one heavy ass car lol.
