DSL variables will mainly be your distance to the central office that services you. The closer the better. Then it depends on the speed tier you have. Cable works differently where distance isn't a real concern just as long as you can have a line ran to tap and the nodes aren't saturated. There was a time that download mattered most and and now ISP's know there needs to be a change were the upload needs to be more symmetrical with the download speed but like everything else they will milk what they have right now and stick it to me until they deem necessary.
