newls1
I'm not sure if im using the correct wording by saying "Pole Vent", but what im trying to describe is the bottom of the BTL / BL's dont have a vent on the bottom of the magnet, where as the AudioQue HDC3A's im looking into buying I think DO! Why? What is the difference? Im really looking for my HDC3's to hit really hard, at least as hard as my BL's that I had, and am just doing as much research as I can, without pissing to many people off . Is having a pole vent a sign of a driver that can really hit hard, or am I completely wrong? Please, can someone chime in, and describe to me what the differences are? Thank you Quote I love my staffie So anti FACEBOOK it isn't even funny
lanman31337
If it does have the vent, it's to help cool the coils. kandiman71874
To Pole Vent, or not to Pole Vent, that is the question. In all honesty, it has alot to do on how the drivers cooling system is designed. Just because it doesnt have a pole vent does not mean it is a better, or an inferior driver to another that does or doesnt have that characteristic. most drivers that do not have one, have additional cooling channels machined into the motor structure to actually channel the air around the coil better to force a wind tunnel affect to help cool the coil in a more efficient fashion. Look up Fi's Bp option that is offered on the SSD and Q series, kind of an example of what is done to help increase the cooling affect... IH8PunkRok
i believe a pole vent is the standard for coil cooling on subs and i think Fi has some new kinda cooling that is better than the standard pole vent but idk pole vent doesnt mean louder or quieter its a standard my 3512 has a pole vent and its loud Quote -Matt2005 Dodge Magnum RTJVC KD-AVX1 2 PPI S580.2 Obsidian Audio ST1 Horn Tweeters PRV 8MB450s Audio Legion 3500.1D 2 RE MT 18s 360 ah LiFePO4 BatterySHCA 2/0 155.2 @ 29 hzKicker CVR 15's buildDD 3512e buildMini T-Line Build(6) 8s BuildNightshade 15s Wall BuildMagnum AB XFL 12s BuildNewest Magnum Build

Decaf
not using ones usually creates more pressure around the top plate which gets rid if the air closer to the joint of the former and cone rather than near the bottom of the vc... the metal used dictates how it dissipates heat too... so for some companies its better to cool thru the pole vent and for others closer to the top plate... most spl subs do not use pole vents
Boon
most spl subs do not use pole vents Wut? I'm struggling to think of many that aren't the RE MT or Fi BTL... DD95/99/Z Atomic APXX DC Level 5 T3 TSNS All got pole vents... On topic, it's just another way of cooling the coil. Different brands have different theories about whether to use them or not (effect on BL, pressure in the gap, etc etc) but the presence or lack of one doesn't make a sub good or bad. Decaf
edit* most companies do use pole vents to the OP... its really hard to tell by magnet weight, bl and pole vents whats going to be best for ur setup.... its moreso the combination of all the specs and the box being built that dictates the outcome in ur case, just go with the hdc's!!!! He pretty much hit the nail on the head. It is a combination of the specs of the woofer and the box you put it in that make a woofer perform well/poorly. And like he said, just go with the HDC's Im sure youll be happy. Ive heard several HDC3 setups and cant complain about one of them, well, except the ringing in my ears after i got out of their car, lolz. creyc
In addition to what others have posted, in some subwoofer designs the lack of a pole vent can also increase magnetic strength in the bottom plate by putting more metal around the coil. I believe I read this from some Fi article maybe on ***?
