OrionStang Posted October 18, 2009 Report Posted October 18, 2009 I'm about to start deadening my ride. This is the first time I will be doing "Second Skin". Should I cover every square inch of my trunk, roof and doors, or will just centered tiles suffice? SMD Super Seller My Feedback Thread
pthrift Posted October 18, 2009 Report Posted October 18, 2009 IMO the more the merrier when it comes to sound deadening; so every sq. inch u can get to Clicky for build log.... 2002 Tahoe DC Power Inc 3 alt bracket with 2x230a. alts 1 stock Eclipse CD5030 2 JL HD 600/4 4 Rockford Fosgate 2500bdcp's 4 DC Audio 18" XL's 4 Pr MB Quart Premium Components 200FT Stinger HPM 1/0 Rockford 360.2 No where near enough sound deadening
Marlo Stanfield Posted October 19, 2009 Report Posted October 19, 2009 Trunk try to cover everything you can with it because that will be where the highest amount of pressure will be. Doors wise, I always start with the inside of the door(metal connected to outside skin of vehicle) and if it's not enough just add to the other parts. If you don't mind buying a bunch of it then just deaden everywhere for the most part, you won't be harming anything. 1998 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer... New setup, old ride... 99vic Posted October 20, 2009 Report Posted October 20, 2009 it depends on how big your system is also. i did some playing with some. and i put a square about 5x5 and it effected the area around it 12x12 if that makes sense. it all depends on what your looking for edit: im not 100% sure on exact numbers id have to look forthem but that was an idea REST IN PARADISE BIG RICH (Sqmonte) never forgotten Why do you guys ALWAYS dispute on NUMBERS????? fischy fisch Posted October 20, 2009 Report Posted October 20, 2009 Except possibly your score on the meter true sound deadner can help your score and it can hurt your score but it you really need second skin cover up what flexes what do you have as for a system or what are your plans lol. but i haven't and i don't plan on it. plus i'd probably miss and hit her belly button or her ear or something. lol.
trainman0978 Posted October 20, 2009 Report Posted October 20, 2009 my experience with it was this .... Thoroughly deaden the places that are the hardest to get to the first time around. Like the roof. You only want to pull the headliner out once, if you can. You can always add more to the doors later, door panels are much easier to remove than a headliner. Try to cover every spot you can get to, and use the roller to get it to adhere good. Do one layer and tap your finger on the roof and see how solid the panel is, and if you think it needs more, add more. and the same goes for your trunk, cover it all, especially the trunk lid itself.... take your time, and expect some cuts on your hands. And in your doors, do the outer skin first, and if you have material left over work on the inner skin ( the part the door panel attaches to ) and double up on the outer skin behind where the speakers are.... 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser Voo Doo Blue my upgrades and "build" thread.
