There are two sides to this argument - and people can argue that running one coil is fine as long as you drop the power accordingly. There are other people who will argue that it will destroy the sub in a matter of seconds. You can run one coil on a sub, but like the dually reply, it would be kind of like buying a viper and only driving 45 mph. I never have ran 1 coil on any of my subs and never will, but I have seen it done plenty of times with varried results. You can connect just one. Power handling is cut down, and the t/s parameters can be varied by leaving the second coil open vs. shorting it. It is not going to hurt the sub.
