AUDIOADDICT02
Like the title says, would you go with the biggest or smallest recommended enclosure for a sub, and why? I know with a smaller box you could feed a sub more power, and I've heard that you could only give a sub it's recommended RMS in the biggest recommended box... gotspl?
If you're not running RMS of a woofer use a smaller box this yields better results with less wattage, if you want to over-power or run RMS build max specs. thats my .02 cents Quote Team Bassick HU: Pioneer DEH-4200UB Front: Pioneer TS-A1683R Rear: Pioneer TS-T110 Amp: Kicker KX600.4 Subs: PSI 18" Platform 1 Amp: Audiopipe 1500D Electrical: Big III, Stinger SPV-40, Stock ALT SCORE: N/A
AUDIOADDICT02
Makes sense....though I remember reading that it would be safer to have a smaller box if over-powering a sub...I guess not.... audiofanaticz
My boxes I build usually tend to be huge! Im talking 16-22 cubed for a pair of 18s after displacement and tune low with massive port area 14-16sq inches per cube. I only toss a little under rms of my woofers, but Ive gave more then rated rms in the past. The one thing Ive noticed time and time again is knowing your setup... If you get your woofers a bit hot and stinky dont shut them off, but keep them moving at a moderate volume to keep air moving around the coil. Proper set amplifiers is also a key essential. Generally smaller boxes will take lots of added power (over rms ratings) and also can get loud if all your after is a burp number.
AUDIOADDICT02
I used to make the box as big as I could the woofer cause it sounded good on a lil bit of power...but after reading about different effects according to box size, i became a bit more concerned because i tend to overpower subs.... dustinking
ive read up on this alot, seems the bigger box is better for less power due to being able to control the woofer better.. more power smaller box~
