My take: Extreme vehicles need to be- well, Extreme. That means Balls out SPL and Good Looks. Why not both? They are competing after all. When was the last time you saw a NHRA, F1, NASCAR, etc... vehicle that looked like total crap???

On a related but secondary note- for a daily vehicle to win points on all levels for me- it has to be crazy loud, look good, be drivable and functional, AND sound good (gasp- yes... SQ). The whole part that makes Car Audio interesting and fun- the never ending goal and challenge to strive to have the best of all worlds.

I wish I could agree with you on this statement, as this is definately what I shoot for in my own vehicle......

But when you stop to look at it, you have a LOT of vehicles competing in SPL that look like total garbage (not to mention, very poorly balanced with mids/highs), and then on the other hand, you have a lot of vehicles competing for SQ that look, and sound sweeter than $#!+ > but which are not that crazy loud.

Only in a "very distant 3rd place" do you see the handful of guys competeing in the SQL category. > Which seems kind of odd to me, considering how many of us here on this board want, as you put it, the best of all worlds.

i know loud aint always pretty but that contraption gives a new meaning to ugly. If someone said i could have 180db and the world record, but my car had to look THAT bad, i would turn it down. I can understand concrete, plexi windows, lots of wood and fiberglass....in fact i want to build an extreme car some day......but i draw the line when its that ugly and NOT A CAR anymore. lol

Maybe instead of copying other guy's extreme car designs, Alan needs to start copying some show car builders designs to make them look at least presentable.

to compare race cars looks is a poor comparison. First, the design of the car is totally dictated by the sanctioning body and the looks (ie paint scheme and decals) are dictated by sponsors whose whole point is to draw your attention to that car. So yes, there is an aesthetic part to race cars but it's from a sponsor stand point. As far as functionality, do you think any of those guys (NHRA, F1, NASCAR, etc...) put things on their cars (other than sponsorship things) so they will look good? Everything on the car has either a performance or a safety function.

However, I agree with you that at least some thought should be given to how those extreme cars look. I don't understand the point of calling it car audio if you A) can't drive the car can't sit in the car and listen to the audio or C) can't actually listen to any music. Seems there should be a separate competition called, Who can make the loudest noise.

it's better to have loud and good looking rather then world record and something that used to look like a car. Shit, even somewhat loud and clean.

I personally wouldn't build something that showed all my jiblets underneath. Alan's truck needs a pretty skirt to hide the goodies. I like the challenge of finding out for myself instead of seeing it on display is all.
