Testing for a bad battery?

Recommended Posts

I am trying to figure out how to tell if this battery is bad. So my friend purchased a Kinetik 2400 and after installing it the alternator went bad due to a voltage regulator, the alternator was replaced. Now the battery seems like it is barely working. How do we test this battery to see if it is still good?

Get a multimeter and see what the voltage is

What do you mean battery doesn't seem to be working?

Tell me...does this smell like chloroform to you?

NOT true.

You need to do a load test. Bring it to an autozone or something. You need a machine to do it.

A battery can be sitting at a low voltage and only need a charge.

Partially true..

Check out at what voltage it sits at.(should be atleast 12.3-12.5)

Then apply a load(like a amp) and see how low it drops and how fast.

You dont need a machine to do it. (although a DMM is a machine.)

Thinking is the root of all problems...

You ALWAYS get what you pay for.

By not working, I mean the headlights are still dimming to the point of almost going out, also when the starting battery was unhooked so the car was pulling directly from the Kinetik, it wouldn't even turn the engine over. Which it says a Kinetik 600 will start a V8, so the 2400 should have no problem. The battery is sitting at a voltage of about 12.3 while not doing anything.

Need to charge that battery up Bro.

They should be resting @ 12.8/12.9.
