brent379 Posted August 16, 2011 Author Report Posted August 16, 2011 O ok! So how do u find out how tall and wide the port should be??
Namosh Posted August 16, 2011 Report Posted August 16, 2011 Use this chart to get an idea of how much cone area you have. http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/6819-cone-area-of-a-subwoofer/ For 2 twelves you have about 226 square inches. That's where you want your port area to be. I'd decide how deep your box will be first...for example if it is 16" deep and single baffle you have 14.5 inches possible width or your port...then 14.5 x 15.75 gets you to about 228 sq inches. This is just an example so play with these numbers until you get dimensions that will work for you. My Ram Quad Cab Blow-through

brent379 Posted August 16, 2011 Author Report Posted August 16, 2011 Hmmm ok. Ima play around with it and post up wat i come up with...tell me if im way off lol
Supercharged DCs Posted August 16, 2011 Report Posted August 16, 2011 They need to equal up to about 226sqin. Area=length times width 226sqin= length times width, and you will have to find two factors that allow you to get that 226sqin. I believe. I haven't slept in 30hrs so I'm not all here lol Bassless once again. Can't seem to keep a system for more than a few weeks Saving for a '06 Nissan 350z, look for build around June 2012.
bumpinTL364 Posted August 16, 2011 Report Posted August 16, 2011 reading the sticky on the topic makes it very easy to design and figure out the proper dimensions for a box. I'll be posting up a few sketch ups I'm thinking about doing for my own design, so be sure to check out me thread when it comes around! brent379 Posted August 17, 2011 Author Report Posted August 17, 2011 Ok....ive been finally playin with the numbers a lil bit...i measured my twelve and from surround to surround its 11in...i got two twelves so total cone area is 190sqin..i loojed up the fs of my twelves and its 35hz..so my length would be 8ft...if i understand this corectlythe port area should be close to my total cone area of 190sqin... With port length bein 8ft=96sqin.... my port would have to be two inches wide...which ends up at 192sqin... To me a 2in port is pretty small...now all of this is based on the fact of if i did my calculations right lol. And if it is right can i lower my tuning freq to around 30hz without hurting the subs??? And alsi wats a good width for the port...4in???
STEvil Posted August 17, 2011 Report Posted August 17, 2011 Length does not factor into the port area. Stop trying to use the length. 24 inches wide by 2 inches tall only gets you 48 square inches of port. Any time you have have a power wire next to your frame put some rubber hosing (or cut up an innertube) around it. The wire is bound to wiggle (due to driving or flex) and the casing will eventually wear through. Hammerdown... 1% no links to outside websites, business related FB/YT pages allowed.
IH8PunkRok Posted August 17, 2011 Report Posted August 17, 2011 Fire subs up, port exiting to the passenger side with enough room to breathe. It should be an easy down-and-back sort of design. no. one of the main advantages (and large reasons why tlines are so efficient) is because it matches the front and rear waves effectively doubling the amplitude doing what you said kinda gets rid of that. -Matt2005 Dodge Magnum RTJVC KD-AVX1 2 PPI S580.2 Obsidian Audio ST1 Horn Tweeters PRV 8MB450s Audio Legion 3500.1D 2 RE MT 18s 360 ah LiFePO4 BatterySHCA 2/0 155.2 @ 29 hzKicker CVR 15's buildDD 3512e buildMini T-Line Build(6) 8s BuildNightshade 15s Wall BuildMagnum AB XFL 12s BuildNewest Magnum Build
brent379 Posted August 17, 2011 Author Report Posted August 17, 2011 Ugh! Ok then sooooo then basically my port would have to be 8in wide by 24in tall by 8ft long?? Cuz 8 times 24 would be 192sqin.... Is that right????
