matt14
A friend of mine has 2 10"level 3s off a alpine 1000 and the surrounds on one sub is cracked and the other is broken about 1/2 around. What do you think could be the problem? We were gonna reset his gains tomorrow (with my dd1) after we built him a new box, but now not sure since the subs are gonna just break apart anyways. Clipping maybe? CJ18
This problem has been addressed with new surrounds being tooled specifically for the 10" subs. There is now a reinforced surround option and a wide/high roll surround option that will cure this problem. Best bet is to get a recone with one of these options. HatersGonnaHate
Yes, order the recones for them and set the gains with the DD-1 BEFORE you hook them up and you should be good to go. thorshammer
The new high roll surrounds just came out within the last couple months. The reinforced surround was an option at the time of purchase. In my experience the surrounds only tore due to over excursion. My guess is the box is too big Clipping does not kill surrounds but it will kill a coil. Edited August 28, 2011 by thorshammer

You can thank this guy for the overwhelming need for new surround options on the 10" subs. If I were a sub I wouldnt like to see thor coming.
