DD-1 and over 15k power

Recommended Posts

I was wondering the best was to use the DD-1 when setting gains on large amps. I wanna test the DD-1 for myself against the tpi440 just to see if I gain. The problem is the 2 amps being use AB 1100.1's are over the 15K output limit. My question is can I just unstrap the the 2 amps and just set the gain on the master amp, then strap them back? Just looking for the best way before I start testing.

i would set the gains on the master amp and re strap them. then after check with the DD1 on the output end. to make sure that neither amp is clipping.

ive never set gains on strapped amps so that seems like a safe way to double check everything and make sure that for some reason the slave amp isnt clipping.

seeing how most amps can put out different wattage on their birth sheets even when rated at the same output level.

well I usually just set the gains with them strapped. Just the DD-1 says in the manual is good for up to 15k. 2-1100.1s strapped output is above that.

Steve Should chime in.. I really don't know how much difference it is in strapping the Rockford Amps Vs the American Bass amps, But im thinking that he had to go through the same process.

he wouldnt be the first to say they did a 167 with a system like that (one that clearly DOESNT), but i have to say, he didnt beat me anywhere, ive never competed against the guy. If he thinks his does a 167, mine would probably put him in a coma. :hairtrick:

If I understand how Rockford amps work, you set the gain on the master amp, but you still connect speakers to slaves like individual amps.

Am I correct about this?

You may be offended by the above. Don't take it personally, I'm just abrasive.

I love car audio so much because I will never be done. I can never win, and I will never get it finished or perfect. It always has me coming back for more, I can never get my fill of it, but I get what I need.

  • 3 weeks later...

Ok, well after getting a few things fixed I will come back to this post. After seeing CJ18s Vids the scope and DD1 was very close between the 2 as far as output voltage. Well with my 1100.1s strapped there was I big difference to me.

TPI 440 perfect wave 240v

DD1 230.5v

Keep in mind this was with the amps strapped and all filter set prior to any gain adjustments
