How can I get better CD quality!

Recommended Posts

If you really want better quality, the best thing to do is run a 3.5mm cable from a netbook to the aux in on a HU, and use the HU as a preamp, then you'd be able to play whatever quality you want, aac, wma, mp3, flac, so on and so forth. Putting flac files on CDs is a little silly, due to the size. If you want better quality without alot of money, download Audacity, and learn how to remaster them.

Is that a real answer? Stop talking.

OP, ya ever think about buying cds? Like from cd stores? They have those.

i resolve to be a nicer moderator.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say the audio output on a netbook is not great. It is probably best to either use a CD or some sort of USB source and let the H/U do it's own converting rather than use an AUX input, if we are talking about going for better quality of sound.

most songs don't "sound good" because of how it was made/recorded, not the quality/kbps. aside from frequencies above say, 8000hz, you shouldn't be able to tell the difference from 320kbps to cd quality. most cant tell 256kbps from cd quality. if the song doesn't have a ton of data it doesn't benefit to have more information per second. now an orchestra playing Schoenberg could definitely benefit from the highest quality, but you arent trying to drown out the violin with a bass drum like we drown out lyrics from rap

That would be great if he was talking about the quality of the actual cd's....but he's talking about the quality in sound of the original cd as compared to burned copy of said cd. He's noticing a huge difference in SQ between those two.

still analogous

point was you shouldn't be noticing that much of a difference, a setting on the comp might be throwing it off... volume check maybe

whats the headunit btw?

this is exactly right you wont be able to tell the difference from cd unless it was better recorded. this is why artist use so many eq's while recording and change per track or vocals

edit: also noticed you referred to the occasionally free mixtape IE. mixtape torrent or datpiff. if this is what you are referring to then what you get is what you get. those cd's are put up there for free and are generally based on the recording equipment from the dj's that host the mixtape. this is why you will get a better cd from one dj then the next

If i had to hazard a guess he probably used the default settings when he ripped the CD's @128kbs in mp3 format and if you have heard mp3's in 128kbs you'll know how bad they can sound.

Especially when compared to the cd itself.
