Joshex
I am looking to paint my car since as of right now it is primed and needs to be painted within the next couple of months. My question is: Is it more cost effective to go to Maaco after prep-work has been finished or have a buddy of mine do it and I have to buy the paint? Also if you have used Maaco, how was the paint job and was it worth the money? KillaCam
I won't go there myself, I haven't heard anything good about them. Edit: I guess the quality may vary depending on the shop though.. Skullz
You get what you pay for and if you pay a few hundred that is all about as much work as will go into it, at the very least pay to have it sprayed, sanded and clear coated. I have seen a few maaco paint jobs that looked great and some that looked like hell so you want to spend what is needed to get the job done correctly. n8ball2013
maacos are all independently owned. They are all pretty much subpar however there is one near me that does pretty damn good work. They actually do custom jobs and have one of the nicer paint booths in the area. Ive seen a few cars theyve done and they are pretty good. defnitely above maaco average Quote THERE IS NO BUILD LOG! 1998 Chevy Silverado ext cab Alpine CDA-9887 4 Team Fi 15s 2 Ampere Audio TFE 8.0 2 Ampere Audio 150.4 3 Digital Designs CS6.5 component sets Dual Mechman 370XP Elite alternators inbound! 8 XS Power d3400 6 XS power d680 Second Skin Stinger Tsunami Wiring Sky High A Real Voltmeter not a piece of shit stinger. ToNasty
There ok if you do the body prep yourself. Then have them sprat whatever but not clear it. Sand whatever you took there then take ot back for a clear. Sounds like a lo of work but if you prep its ok. Anything is better than earl sheib Quote ***Super Sellers List***http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/25829-super-sellers-buyers
Joshex
Thanks for the suggestions guys. I may just have them spray it and sand/clear coat it myself. I know several people that will be willing to help me out with prep and clear. Just not up to par on the spraying aspect. alaskanzx5
the difference between shitty paint jobs and good paint jobs is prep work, the difference between good paint jobs and fantastic paint jobs is a lot of prep work with high quality paint. like they suggested, wet sand it bring it to them and have them spray the color on, wet sand it smooth agian and then have them do the clear coat. if you have freinds with the equipment and place to do it for the same cost for the cheap maaco paint job you can get some better quality paint then maaco would use and do it all yourself. start with a door then the other doors and the hood and trunk lid then the body of the car. doing the smaller parts first will allow you to get the right movement down with wasting less paint as you practice. i would rather do it myself if i was you seeing as to how you would be doing the majority of the work yourself already anyways, the painting part of it isnt even 1/4 the work.
