Omega5002 Posted August 19, 2012 Report Posted August 19, 2012 I say DD-1 cause I only care about the power I receive below %1, I don't care if the amp does rated power at 3% thd(probably a junk amp anyways), I only care for the clean power. 2003 Kia Sorento Team Subsonic LowsTeam Bassin' on a Budget2016 Rebuild Under Construction Best score: 150.2 at 40hz (3k, 2 Custom HDC3 15's) Usaci style(door open, in the kick)

P4killer_ Posted August 19, 2012 Report Posted August 19, 2012 This was a fun read while I ate some popcorn, I must say good points from both sides of the decussion. I just happen to use an o scope to set mine, because you don't know exactly without something telling you it is distorting or clipping. I have used the DMM trick and have blown up 15s doing so, just gonna put that out there, and I have set gains with o scope and blown up 15s, so not everytime is clipping or distortion that causes the failure. Having said that, which method is best, the one that WORKS for you. If the DD1 is quick and simple to use which it is, and that is what you like or want to use go that route, will other things work to set your gains, sure. You the customer is the ultimate deciding factor in what to do at the end of the day. Set with ear = not sure where clipping distortion is Set with DMM = not sure where clipping distortion is Set with oscope = you know where clipping is Set with DD1 = you know where distortion is Simple as that. If clipping and distortion matter to you, select the one that applies. This is pretty much right but iirc Then if there is clipping there is also distortion. Meaning to say that the DD1 by finding distortion, makes sure there is no clipping. There can be distortion but no clipping There cannot be clipping but no distortion. Just because the light comes on doesnt mean your clipping, it means your distorting. So in terms of spl where you actually want a tiny bit of clip the DD1 leaves a lil bit on the table.. Im pretty sure thats right lol I prolly didnt word any of that right But the DD1 is stoooopid easy to use. I mean super easy, so its very nice. For the regular guy. If your gonna drop any considerable amount of $ into a system. might as well look into it. itll pay you back over time. I have seen more people GAIN db using the DD-1 then lose. We never "claim" that you can gain DB but we have seen it over and over again over the last year. Even with LESS overall power. keep in mind, also, the DD-1 isn't just to "penalize" you and make you turn your gains down......in fact, more people have realized that their gains were TOO LOW (before) and they got to turn them up some (after) using our product. By the time a signal is clipped off, its already distorted. So even though it doesn't LOOK for clipping, it will still show it.....because its distorted. kingsuv Posted August 19, 2012 Report Posted August 19, 2012 Wow. Never thought this discussion would be about trying to compare a dmm to the dd-1. To say you can measure the dame AC line condition with a dmm over a scope based unit is crazy. At least there is some room for discussion between the dd1 and scope. But even a scope isn't designed to set a limit on what percentage you are seeing. So why not use the right tool for the job? Ignorance is bliss Designing, building, and shipping boxes. Yahoo IM - kingsuv00If the listening level is too loud, please inform the driver, so he can promptly pull over, and let you out. not many cars can get me to pluggin my ears but this one.......damn. I mean the first minute is ok but that thing just really starts digging deeper and deeper in your earhole till you cant stand it no more. Seems like it does it with relative ease....16 12's on 8 amps.........gotta love it.

I can see your points and they are very true, BUT....on a 3 sec burp clipped to hell and back is almost always good for a tenth or two on the TL. Seen it too many times for it to be wrong lol. Ignorance is bliss never once compared the two. again, all i said was that the dmm method is effective. dude, you are IMPOSSIBLE. You have No clue on why a gain is on the side of an amp. You keep thinking your way is proper, and i will keep teaching people the RIGHT WAY. The DMM is a joke for setting gains just like using the clip-light. .... ok... so i ask nicely for a technical explanation and thats your reply? you know... there is such a thing as a friendly argument. i dont think its a secret, on this forum, that I know a thing or two. i think you yourself know that im not some idiot, as you like to portray me. as this has clearly turned sour, ill just leave this thread alone, regardless of your next comment. If I was an asshole, you asked a stupid question or you had a fucktard attitude... or I was in a bad mood.
