Brandon15zzz Posted November 11, 2012 Report Posted November 11, 2012 I have heard that for it to be covered that it all has to be bolted down not just sitting in your car? Anyone with this care to elaborate? OrionStang Posted November 11, 2012 Report Posted November 11, 2012 Probably depends on the policy. Mine does not have to be secured. SMD Super Seller My Feedback Thread
afrakes Posted November 11, 2012 Report Posted November 11, 2012 My brother in law is an insurance agent, he basically told me that if it is bolted down in your car it is considered part of your car (such as your hu, amp if it is screwed down, box and subs if its bolted or formed the your car, etc...), therfore it is covered under your cars insurance which you need additional coverage for. For me, 1500 in coverage would have coswt me an additional 7 bux/month on my car insurance through state farm and that's with a 300 dollar deducable. If the box or anything really is not bolted down or fiberglassed in your car however, it is covered in your renters/homeowners policy. He told me its like a carseat for a child, sure it primarily is used in your car and spends 99% of its time in there, but it is still easily enough removable for use in other applications. As long as its not bolted down and you have enough renters or homeowners insurance coverage you are good to go. Now keep in mind that I live in Washington State, so it may be different state to state... dpeebs Posted November 11, 2012 Report Posted November 11, 2012 im not from the states but my best friend had insurance for his car audio through his house insurance he said he paid no extra and he was in university and his car got broke into and he got covered on everything even though he was and hour away from his house. he had to pay 500 deductable though but he had over 3gs worth of stuff stolen and they also replaced the wires that were all cut.
Smoove Posted November 12, 2012 Report Posted November 12, 2012 Im about to bump my coverage from $2500 at $12 a month to $5000 coverage for $16 a month. I have always kept at least $!500min coverage on my audio equipment since like 94. I did have a short time where I removed that coverage for like 6 months and my amp got stolen in 2004 so I got screwed. So I always do a min coverage for after market audio even if nothing is installed YET. I use country Companies and they have always been great. So to answer your question. YES, get your stuff covered. You dont ever want to know the feeling of losing your stuff and not at least being covered. djphilly Posted November 13, 2012 Report Posted November 13, 2012 I think its worth it. I had someone do a smash and grab on a laptop and some audio equipment in my truck a couple of days before I put the alarm on and my renters insurance covered it fully. Ironically I have a garage and I didn't put my truck in the garage because I moving stuff around and didn't feeling like making space for the truck. lesson learned. don't be lazy. 2000 FORD EXPEDITION EDDIE BAUER current system (1) Pioneer DEH P8300UB (2) Massive audio nx4 mids and highs amps (2) Soundstream sst-654N (2) Soundstream sm-654N (4) Soundstream sme-574P (4) Massive audio ct1-a aluminum dome tweeters (4) soundstream sst-05 bullet tweeters (2) Soundstream x3.182 subs (1) Cactus Sounds k5 XS power batts Mechman alt

DubNDodge Posted March 12, 2013 Report Posted March 12, 2013 Gonna bump this up instead of making another thread. Will they only cover the amount of the equipment? Or can you set how much you are covered for? I would hate to be cover for only what my system is worth when I would have 100+ hours in it once I'm done. This will be under comprehensive right? I would just ask my agent about getting my stereo system covered for what I want? Jskiles Posted March 12, 2013 Report Posted March 12, 2013 I'd assume they would only cover what you paid for your system. If they'd let people set limits more than the cost of equipment then anyone could just say set my shit to 10k when they only have 1k in equipment. 2010 Kia Forte Koup (Slow Build) 2 Sundown SCV-3000D 2 DC XL M1 with PSI reconesFocal R-165s2 on Orion 4800-HPKenwood KDC-X798Knukonceptz OFC 1/0Audiotechnix,Fatmat and Q-mat Deadener XS power D3400 up front 3 D3100s power in trunkStock 110 amp alt 2013 Scion TC 2 Dc lvl 3s with xl coils on Soundqubed 2200 Sundown components AA 50.2 for components Pioneer FH-X700BT Knukonceptz OFC 1/0 Fatmat and Q-mat Deadener XS Power D3100 up front D925 in back Mechman 240 alt http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/189911-2013-scion-tc-build/ <Scion TC Build http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/174094-jskiles-forte-koup/ <Slow Kia Forte Buildhttp://www.stevemead...ockUserAgent__1 < Old build 2005 Equinox
