Amplifier Depreciation

Just curious how people feel about the value of used amps. In this case, used for only two weeks. Quality brand BTW.

Say You buy an amp brand new from manufacturer for $350. You hook it up in your car and use it ~30 a day for two weeks, then pull it out and box it. Should that amp now only be worth $250 (plus free shipping). Don't know about anyone else, but Fedex doesn't ship my shit for free. Nor am I a big business with special shipping deals.

I'd agree. Only used for that short of a time, not abused, no defects or blemishes at all, doesn't give anyone the right to lowball the fuck out of you. I bought my bc2k for $380, when I planned on selling it, I was only gonna drop the price to $350 with half shipping. No need to take half off the damn bnib price.

I dont think the price should drop that much at all. One thing to consider when selling an amp though, if it is less than 1 year old, the warranty is non transferable with most companies. That does have to be factored in as well with the price.

The vast majority of things we buy will depreciate in value the instant we open the package and use it, some things will lose more value than others and most times hobby items tend to lose the most.

You don't see owners/dealers cutting half off an "open box" item that was just used for pictures, does anyone? Just don't see the need to cheat yourself out of a resale. The warranty thing that CJ brought up is a very valid point though.

10 percent. no scratches no dents perfect working order. so you bought it for 350 it goes on for 315 at the lowest.

Lets take a Brand new Crescendo bc3500 for example, $779 with free shipping brand new. No matter what the age of the amp, what would be a fair price for this amp in 9/10 condition and never repaired? How much cheaper than new would it have to be to make it worth buying used instead of buying new?

I have bought and sold a ton of equipment and usually take a decent hit on it. That is just part of the game when you constantly change your mind and want to do something different. I know this all to well.

Personally to keep me from buying a new 3500 for $779, I would have to save at least $100 maybe more. In most cases you dont know who you are buying from and how the equipment was really treated.

My feeling is, if you try to sell it at 10% to 20% of what you paid for it, you'll be sitting on it a long time but if you price 30% to 40% below what you paid you can be certain it will sell in a very short amount of time. Sucks to get hosed in selling things so new but it is the reason you need to be absolutely certain your buying what you want and intend to use for the long haul cause your only looking to get hosed when you try to sell it.
