Why do amps hum when clipping?

Replying to mark the thread to remember to come back. As my AQ20k did this also!

2003 GMC Yukon Denali

Alpine CDA 117

Redoing Mids/Highs

4 Runs of 1/0 Knukonceptz 2+, 2-

4 Deka 9A31's in back (Stock underhood) 250 amp Alt.

AQ20K

2 18" Crossfire XS V.2's 12 cubes 33hz 149sq inches of port!

Both my Brutus's and Crescendo's do this also. Always wondered why. As soon as the distortion light on DD-1 comes on the amps made that buzzing sound.

With what tone? 40hz; -15dB, -10dB, -5dB, 0dB

40 hz -5db. Brutus 2100 and both BC3500's do it.

it doesn't matter. whenever the amp clips, the noise starts

Many class D amplifiers make some buzzing type noise when the output signal is clipping, or close to clipping. I believe it is mostly the giant output inductors they all have.
