Just reread this and I think I should elaborate on my statements. For most people, if there is something they don't agree with, the reaction is to be bothered, annoyed, sometimes angry or confrontational. Alot of these have to do with hormones.

Drifter is obviously bothered by the smell of weed, but instead of showing the emotions listed above, he goes into an almost depressive state, very likely caused by a hormonal imbalance. Of course, I am not a doctor, I am just speaking from my knowledge of the human body as ive studied it and its functions for many years.

I think ken has it though, most definitely psychological. I and quite a lot of people I know smoke bud and I've never heard of what you're describing.

You say you don't get anxious yet when you think something is wrong with you you get test after test done to check.

alright, well first off, the 'smell' won't bother you in any physical manner, only a personal psychological manner. the terpene profiles of cannabis have been mapped and tested (by sclabs i believe) to PROVE that the smell won't affect you. even lingering smoke will likely not affect you. i use to grow at my dad's house and after he got married to this dramatic asian bitch she would act all depressed and lay in bed all day and blame it on the smell of my plants (that were in veg and had no buds at the time). she said it made her feel intoxicated all the time. my dad and i knew she was full of shit, and like i said, they have tested mj via gas/liquid chromatography to prove that the smell (tepenes) had no more psychoactive properties than the smell of a rose. in the end i stopped growing and didn't tell her when. she kept claiming the plants giving off that smell messed her up, but even after the plants were long gone (she didn't know they were gone) she said it still affected her. eventually i told her the plants were gone and she never complained again. it sounds like it was just a problem she thought she had based off ignorance and a dislike of weed because of things in her past.

and even lingering smoke will not affect you. as someone exhales a hit most the the cannabinoids have been absorbed by the first persons lung, and after they blow it out the smoke (outdoors) is diluted by hundreds and thousands of times. there is no way you are walking by someone smoking and absorbing any cannibinoids from that. hell, i've even been with chicks that don't smoke and i've shot gun'd(making out and blowing her the smoke) many hit and they still don't feel anything! also i've gotten a house pretty smokey at a party and my friend was there who is allergic to weed and he is fine as long as he doesn't take a fresh hit.

getting a second hand high is VERY hard.

btw, if I suffered (using the term loosely) from the symptoms you described when I used to smoke weed all day every day I would have never stopped...
