construction grade glue might work better, check out PL200 and PL400. One works better for wood, the other is better for other stuff, forget which.

A tube for a lawn tractor tire would probably be about right, just cut a 4" wide strip or so out of it.

Try shoe goop, I KNOW it would be perfect for the surround. Just be sure to let it dry completely. But it will be nice and flexible once it's dried but also REAL strong and attached to everything
